After the 4 Seals were discovered by the goat herders, why wasn't there a 4th option, or really what I think should have been the only option, brought up to take the 3 goat herders with them to higher ground until they could establish communication with their CO to get the team extracted &/or assess the situation to go back to the village to carry out the mission?

I know I am completely hindsight quarterbacking the situation, but I mean-how was that not considered?

You would have to tie them up and basically drag them. That would be difficult.

It just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Not saying it's a conspiracy or cover up of some sort.

This. The story is BS as well. Lol at 80-200 enemy fighters. It's a shame that Marcus Lutrell has managed to get fame off a botched operation where 3 of his good friends were killed.

Nope. Afghan MAMs (military aged men) will walk on their own if you have a rifle in your hand.

Movie was good
Book was great

That said, it's one man's story. I've always been puzzled by the fact he was able to remember all those details while in a gunfight.

I think the first of it is exaggerated to fairy tale levels. 4 guys vs 200 insurgents? Come on...

However the later bits, including their deaths and how he escaped and survived I believe are real.

Or why not have two guys watch them while the other two get to higher ground to establish coms?

It seems that simply releasing them was the worst possible idea next to flat out murder.

Do you know how hard that must have been to recreate off one man's story? I think the gunfight was one of the most intense and well produced battles I've seen in a long time in newer movies. It's kind of up there with the last scene in Saving Private Ryan.

Now, how true to the actual story is this gunfight? I have no earthly idea. And we will likely never, ever know. But that's okay because the movie did an excellent job of showing that the SEAL's respected their enemy, knew his strengths, and fought like mad to stay alive. And they ultimately lost.

He's coming to speak in Shreveport in November and charging up to $92 per head. $250 for a "VIP" package where you get to meet him.
