Leo Dicaprio overacts and it's starting to get annoying. Too intense

Don't misunderstand me...Leo is a very talented actor.
But, in my opinion his best movies are behind him. Gilbert Grape was Leo at his very best. Ever since then he's overacted in most movies. He's way too intense in scenes where he should be more subdued, his whiney yelling is annoying, and his crying was great at first but it's just too dramatic now.
Something about his acting no longer appeals to me. His intensity was great in Gangs of New York, but since then he's tackled every character with the same intensity and it doesn't seem authentic anymore. It's almost like Tom Cruise's overly boisterous laugh. There's just something amiss about it.
I fear that he is going to somewhat tarnish the upcoming period drama, The Revenant, which could become a modern classic with someone like Daniel Day Lewis in the lead role.
There's a reason that Daniel Day Lewis is an Academy winner and Leo isn't. Daniel knows when to turn on and turn off the intensity - Leo does not.

I have a feeling he's going to not be as intense in the Revenant

Have you seen the trailer?

Yes and no. He has overacted in a few roles and he has also chosen a few roles where the character was supposed to be "over the top".
IMHO, the one role where he perfectly nailed it was in the Departed and if I remember correctly, he wasn't even nominated for the Oscar. He should have been. He was nominated for Blood Diamond that year and lost to Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland. He should have been nominated for The Departed and he should have won.

In this thread: mizzoukills trying to analyze the thespian arts on an intellectual level.

do you try to collect downvotes or something?

yeah because he overacted in Django, Gangs of New York, etc.
the roles he took on called for eccentricity

Yeah.
Leo's pretty bad.
It makes sense that such horrible directors like Scorsese, Tarantino, and Nolan cast him in their films.
They aren't very good at what they do, either.

Meh. I give him an A+ for The Aviator and an A for Inception and Shutter Island, too. I thought he wore those characters extremely well.
Now, he had a lot more help in Inception and The Departed, but he, effectively had to carry Aviator and Shutter Island - and he did so extremely well.
DDL is a great actor, don't get me wrong, but he benefits by being extremely selective. But, from Aviator on, I think Di Caprio has delivered the best acting performances in leading roles, more consistently than any other A-list leading man.
(And this is from a guy who used to have him on the "do not watch" list - after the early pushing of him in Romeo and Juliet and Titanic - in which he was pretty terrible.)

I never said he was bad. But I will say that you're dumb.

I agree. Those hacks aren't anything compared to geniuses of celluloid such as Shuji Terayama, Andrzej Zulawski or Apichatpong Weerasethakul

More legit actors should be Oscar snubbed. Keep them hungry.

He's really not.

I like him too but him being called the GOAT on this board is kind of funny. He's a fantastic dramatic actor but he hasn't really done anything else other than play some ultra serious role. He's never really branched out and tried anything else. I'd put Tom Hanks' resume up against anyone's.

Wolf of Wallstreet, Django, and Shutter Island are all awesome movies and he was great in them.
