or if made ever?

why in the hell has this not been done, btw?
Is now the time to finally produce this movie with the popularity of New Orleans among the Hollywood types?

For any of you that ever watched the show Wings on USA, I thought the Roy Biggins character was a dead on ringer for Ignatius. Every time I've ever read COD, I always get the mental image of Roy in my head.

Pretty sure Belushi was going to play Ignatius in Confederacy of Dunces after filming Ghostbusters (in the Venkman role). Of course he died, and so did the production at that time. I think he would have been perfect for it.

Ferrell's name was supposedly thrown around recently for a movie scheduled a few years ago, but I think that fell apart. I'm not sure if he'd be right, at all, for the role.

Weird, I was talking to my wife the other day about this book and wondering why it had never been made into a movie.

PSH might be good as the lead. Could he pull off the humor? I mean whoever it is needs to be able to be funny without meaning to be, if you know what I mean.

that's why Hoffman would be better than Zach G. PSH can do dramatic and comedy, Zach G. hasn't shown me that he has any kind of range as an actor.

Hoffman is the most likely to nail the role out of those mentioned. Unfortunately, I kind of think the time for that movie has come and gone.

au contraire mon frere...I think this point in time is the perfect time to make a movie of this book...to quote; "Social Note: I have sought escape in the Prytania on more than one occasion, pulled by the attractions of some technicolored horrors, filmed abortions that were offenses against any criteria of taste and decency, reels and reels of perversion and blasphemy that stunned my disbelieving eyes, the shocked my virginal mind, and sealed my valve."

From Wiki
quote:

There have been repeated attempts to turn the book into a film. In 1982, Harold Ramis was to write and direct an adaptation, starring John Belushi and Richard Pryor, but Belushi's death would prevent this. Later, John Candy and Chris Farley were touted for the lead, both of whom died at an early age, leading many to ascribe a curse to the role.[6] British performer and writer Stephen Fry was at one point commissioned to adapt Toole's book for the screen.[7] He was sent to New Orleans by Paramount Studios in 1997 to get background for a screenplay adaptation.[8] A version adapted by Steven Soderbergh and Scott Kramer, and slated to be directed by David Gordon Green, was scheduled for release in 2005. The film was to star Will Ferrell as Ignatius and Lily Tomlin as Ignatius's mother. A staged reading of the script took place at the 8th Nantucket Film Festival, with Ferrell as Ignatius, Anne Meara as his mother, Paul Rudd as Officer Mancuso, Kristen Johnston as Lana Lee, Mos Def as Burma Jones, Rosie Perez as Darlene, Olympia Dukakis as Santa Battaglia and Miss Trixie, Natasha Lyonne as Myrna, Alan Cumming as Dorian Green, John Shea as Gonzales, Jesse Eisenberg as George, John Conlon as Claude Robichaux, Jace Alexander as Bartender Ben, Celia Weston as Miss Annie, Miss Inez & Mrs. Levy, and Dan Hedaya as Mr. Levy.[9]

quote:

When asked why the film was never made, Will Ferrell has said it is a "mystery." [10

I don't think it would translate to film very well.
Like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or any Kurt Vonnegatte? etc.
