holy shite, no wonder they are moving to get off Netflix and start their own thing... this is pretty big, and could be the first domino in the fall of broadcast TV?

Deadline first reported the staff reductions on Thursday, saying they could impact up to 200 employees across Disney and ABC properties. An ABC source with knowledge of the situation said that the cuts will hit upward of 40 of its employees on the East Coast and still more out west.
Multiple people at ABC told Splinter that there is a widespread belief at the network that the belt-tightening could be tied to a prospective sale by its corporate parent.
Disney’s broadcast division, which includes ABC and its local TV stations, is suffering from slumping ad rates and new competition from streaming services. The network’s top producer, Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder, decamped from ABC for Netflix in August.

This probably has a lot to do with ESPN's failures.
Disney TV is a disaster right now.

I hope you are right. We are never going to get a good spots station until ESPN falls apart and does not have control
Let them fall to pieces and we can get someone new

What kind of company would buy ABC? I don't know if AT&T has the money, but if you're launching an streaming cable service and could make it difficult for competitors to sign local ABC affiliates, that could be seen as a competitive advantage.

ESPN is part of Disney's plans for it's premium streaming service. I think the ABC portion would be sold separately.

LOL.
They're talking about a rumor of selling it, not shutting it down. Disney did the same thing at ESPN. They streamlined the company. Now they're doing it with their Disney networks and ABC.

Netflix.
Fifty years of ABC content and a way for them to make additional money off of their family friendly original online content by broadcasting it.

I know, and I really really wouldn't be surprised if Netflix comes to the table if they sell it. I also wouldn't be surprised if ABC as a company completely shed it's broadcasting spot if it was bought out by Netflix. Netflix makes it's money by pushing subscriptions - you can't get as many subscriptions if you broadcast the content.

Just in time for their new hour long drama Kevin (Probably) Doesn’t Save ABC

Has ABC produced anything notable since Modern Family?

Since AT&T has Direct TV, would that be an anti-trust issue? How would the cable companies feel about an AT&T takeover. ABC is the owner of affiliate stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philly, San Francisco, and couple of other cities.
