Nip/Tuck peaked at season 3 with the Carver. It went downhill after that season.

To be fair, on that point, it was 4 years later. They probably tried to make it work but couldn't. Not saying there isn't fault on Winona, but that relationship was poison all along.

I have no doubt that they tried to make it work. Just like I have no doubt that it didn't work because Winona is nuts. The relationship was poisoned because she poisoned it by being selfish, and making Raylan try and be someone he wasn't (during their initial marriage and divorce).

But is there anything that Winona ever did on the show that would lead you to believe she wasn't anything but a selfish loon who didn't know what she wanted in life? I mean, she didn't even know what the hell she wanted when she showed up out of nowhere in Kentucky this season. I'm pretty sure she even said she didn't know what she wanted out of him, and she had however long she had been in Florida to think about what she wanted.

I would bet my life savings that if they flashed forwarded another 4 years, she would have left the new guy, and tried to get back with Raylan...yet again.

Ok, now my Winona rant is over.

IGN Review of Finale

Pretty good review by IGN.

Justified was its own universe, away from most of the rest of TV land. The finale was the cherry on top of that universe, a reminder that life goes on. Elmore Leonard can rest in peace knowing his writing was done ... fairly.

Of course he made it. He is Bob forward and backwards.

Raylan went back to the prison to break the news about Ava face-to-face because they were "brothers" from the coal mines and all that. But everything Raylan is telling Boyd is a lie, so doesn't break the "bro code?" Sounds like he has more kinship to Ava than he has to Boyd.

I think Raylan did this because at some point Boyd will get out of prison and a "free man" again. If he had any idea that Ava was still alive or that he had a son. He would probably try to track her down in some fashion.

Raylan is doing Ava & Boyd a favor in all honesty.

I'm kinda glad they didn't end up together. It would have been way too storybook ending. Also, it seems like Winona likes Raylan on short terms. She could never end up with someone with that sort of a profession. She needs a 9-5pm type of man in her house.

I did enjoy the banter between Raylan & Winona in the finale. He's no longer the "angriest man in the world". But he is still stubborn.

I like storybook endings. But the more I think about it, the more I agree that they couldn't have ended up together for the long term.

This is where we disagree. I don't think she can be satisfied with anyone. She had a 9-5 man, and still ended up in Raylan's motel room bed in season 1 (before she ever found out that her 9-5 man was in bed with the Dixie Mafia in season 2).

Again, nothing she ever did in the series pointed to her ever settling down with anyone. In 4 more years she will leave the new guy as well.

I especially liked how they did the flashback when Ava and Raylan were talking where she was driving down the road and each character just peered into Ava's car. The last Raylan/Boyd convo was just awesome.

I liked the finale as a whole, but the flashback about Ava's escort out of Harlan was my least favorite part. Also, if the consensus is that Winn Duffy was the person that helped her escape, that leaves me with a bigger issue since they never really established that Ava had a banter with Duffy that would make it reasonable that she would turn to him for an escape. It would have made more sense to me if Loretta had been the one to help her escape since they at least shared the scene in the Bennett barn when Markum died and they shared the fact that they were both female criminals in Harlan County.

Also, a Contable Bob update would have tied it all up nicely.

Bob should have become the sheriff and killed Limehouse & Errol in a huge shootout on the bridge, approximately one year after the events in the finale. Then, he is poisoned shortly thereafter when Low-Retta slips some tainted beef jerky into his go-bag. You never leave Harlan alive.

For a show that had been mostly solid for years, the last 10 minutes were some of the most hokey and contrived to come along in a while. First lets see happy Raylan in Florida with his little girl, then lets run him out to California so we can drop in on the new Ava and finally to Kentucky where we get to have a grinning contest between two men who wanted to kill each other.

Loved the series, like the last episode, hated the last ten minutes.

Of course in real life, Boyd would probably be in a max-security prison. But in the Justified universe I think Boyd could get out with good behavior. He's already playing up the good christian/preacher vibe. I don't put anything beyond Boyd Crowder.

glad this finale didn't fall into the trap of killing main characters just to do it, I think everyone got the ending they deserved.

Glad we got a decent amount of art and raylan in the finale, that was lacking this season.

Convalescent Art really started to bother me after a short bit. He was a bad arse, and would have been back to work much quicker than that.

For killing Dewey Crowe Boyd deserved a bullet to his shiny forehead. Dewey was a great character.

If we could all pause for a moment of silent reflection and just appreciate Winona fantastic booty.

Couple of thoughts now that I've had a day to think about it:

Did Raylan really have a moment with Boyd at the end or was Raylan faking it because he wanted to be there when Boyd got the fake news to see if he bought it and his excuse for telling him in person was to act like he and Boyd had that connection?

I got caught up in how great that scene was and didn't think about that at the time.

Also, Raylan isn't cool with not being with Winona. When she was walking away he didn't look at her like a guy fine with not being with her and I don't know a man that would be.

In closing, I predict this show is going to be a lot like The Wire. A lot of people missed the train the first go around and it will have legs going forward. There are probably more people that haven't watched it and will as there are people that saw it as it was on.
