Not too sure what you watch, but I had never seen an infant pretty much all but get butchered on screen.

nothing gruesome at all about that

All the groupthink tools on this board have decided it's in vogue to shite on The Witch; they are fraudulently reflective lemmings leaping into a fjord of stupidity.

Didn't personally find it scary, more unsettling. Definitely enjoyed it though.. all hail Black Phillip.

not true

most everyone thinks it was well done (which it is)

the debate centers around if it's scary or not

decent movie, misleading title. how many witches were there, and how much screen time did they get?

Umm, there was 1 main witch that was responsible, hence "The Witch". And what does screen time have to do with the witch and its impact on the family?

Real talk...fact is this movie was just okay. IT WAS NOT SCARY. Not even close. The cinematography was great. That's about it.

Also, IT WAS NOT GRUESOME.

The movie did not show a baby being ground into mush. The movie projects that idea but does not actually show a baby being ground.

If the filmmaker had simply stuck a little hand or foot on the grinding stone then it may have been gruesome, but details like that weren't shown.

The only part that was borderline gruesome was the crow nibbling on the mother's tit, and even that was fairly tame for a so called "horror movie".

This movie causes a LOT of debate. Is it scary or not? Is it a horror or suspense? Is it a good, decent, or bad movie?

Debate is great.

However, the problem is that the folks who loved this movie don't want a debate. If they encounter someone who wasn't scared or creeped out by this movie, they refuse to believe it and therefore peg that individual as a troll or hipster. They do this to make themselves feel better for being so affected by a mediocre movie which isn't even a horror flick.

What can I say? This movie made me laugh more than anything. So many missed opportunities in this movie...where do I begin?

But my opinion doesn't matter. I'm just a troll seeking attention, right? Because this movie was scary and anyone who thinks otherwise must be a liar.

LOL

People will drag me over the coals for what I just posted. I don't care.

If the director would've just shown a glimpse of a baby's hand, foot, or body part on the grinding stone, it would've been more effective and true horror.

If the director had shown a glimpse of two little charred bodies in the fire at the end, it would've been more effective and true horror.

If the director had made Black Phillip more supernatural, it would've been more effective.

If Black Phillip's seduction of the girl had been just a bit more graphic and lustful, more effective.

If the naked girl had noticed the twins in the fire and shrugged off the horror of that scene to embrace her new coven family, it would've been effective horror.

So many missed opportunities.

Let me tell you how people will respond to my post. This is what to expect from their responses:

1. This movie was a mental slow burn exercise meant to force your mind to fill in the gaps.

2. Not all horror movies must be graphic, gory, or gruesome (even though the OP claims this movie was in fact gruesome. LOL). Some of the best scary movies mess with your mind rather than relying on cheap gore.

3. Killz is just trolling or one sick frick because normal people would be very scared by this movie.

4. Killz should just kill himself already and quit shitting all over this board.

And, yet, I'm not saying the director should've made this movie extremely gory. I'm not saying that at all.

However, the director should've added just a few more details to ratchet up the horror element of this movie.

Instead what we got was an extreme slow burn movie that never pays off (with exception to one great line muttered by Black Phillip during the seduction).

I mean, the ONLY thing I enjoyed about the movie was the line, "Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?"

I sat thru 2 hours of extreme boredom for one damn line.

frick that.

I disagree. I think "The Witch" refers to Thomasen and her eventual transformation. I absolutely loved this movie btw.

You seem to mostly just troll here, which makes it hard to take seriously your "improvements" of a critically acclaimed film.

I can't help if people don't want to hear a different point of view. A different point of view isn't trolling.

Emotionally immature people can't handle different opinions, so they created the word "trolling" to suppress people with differing opnions.

It is what it is. Whatevs.

It wasn't scary - it was dark and disturbing.
