Don't normally buy movies sight unseen, but I did with this one for some reason. Very regrettable decision. I actually stopped watching at on point and caught two episodes of Impractical Jokers before resuming.

I liked the one single shot approach, but there just really wasn't enough there to keep this thing going for me. Dialogue driven films are great when done right. This just lagged for me, and I thought the ending was a cop out.

Can't understand all the love and hype this got.

Underwhelmed to say the least.

It was a decent film. Really good acting. Not best picture worthy but of course Hollywood is gonna give themselves a pat on the back.

Still haven't seen Whiplash and had every intention of doing so when it was still playing. Actually tried to Red Box it twice to no avail.

Nice touch with impractical jokers too. Last nights was golden

I really didn't like whiplash. Cool cinematography and great acting but the story was dumb imo

I watched Whiplash last night. It was good but I don't think it was anything great. That's how I felt about Birdman.

Yeah whiplash was good but not Oscar material

Story was stupid and been done 1000 times. Thought Simmons was great but his character was TOO over the top

You can't get away with that shite

According to who? Whiplash was loved by both critics and casual moviegoers alike, so I think they kind of did.

I think he's saying that the character wouldn't be able to get away with physically and verbally abusing his students for as long as he did. I kind of agree.

I can see that. I have been in NYC for a while now and I can honestly say that there are a lot of people that take jazz very seriously up here. Crazy over the top seriously.

The only way I can understand the love is that it's artsy, meaning somewhat novel and dialogue driven, and a lot of people love artsy movies.

I kinda liked it barely. My own expectations are partly to blame. Maybe if I'd been expecting that kind of movie I may have been more receptive.

I liked it, but I like plays, which is exactly what this movie was.

I got the sense that he was so highly respected that is why he got away with it for so long. Kind of like an a-hole football coach who methods suck but he keeps winning and producing talent.

Was it overdone, yes, but that is what cinema is for. I can see something similar happening though.
