Can't believe it took me so long to watch this movie. It's just a lot of fun; it's suspenseful, kind of scary, thought-provoking, and hilarious all at the same time.
I laughed for like 5 minutes at the villain's name- "Shitload."
I was so confused about the main character's name being David Wong, because I remembered that a guy by the same name used to write some hilarious articles for Cracked.com- sure enough the movie is actually based on a book written by that very same guy, and the humor elements are prevalent throughout. In fact the book itself was compiled from a series of chapters released initially as a "halloween special" type thing- apparently Wong posted a new chapter of the story every Halloween to Cracked until he ended up with enough material for a book.
Highly recommend, it's available on Netflix.
Spoilers:
The movie definitely keeps you guessing for like 3/4 of the film before you realize shite is totally real.
I really like that it didn't take a cop-out "it's all happening in his head" direction, which the movie certainly flirts with for most of it's duration.
It actually reminded me most of Army of Darkness.

Yeah but Melissandre will use her magic to bring him back to life.

Is this a Game of Thrones thread?

Don Coscarelli is a really underrated director. "Phantasm" is still one of the creepiest movies ever to me.

no, supernatural/horror/comedy movie on Netflix. If you like Tucker and Dale vs Evil or Scott Pilgrim vs the World you'll like this.

I didn't like either of those movies but John Dies at the End was awesome.

It's called "John Dies at the End" and you should watch it.

I saw this movie when it came out and loved it. The book has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now. Idk why I keep passing it up.

It's all in the soy sauce, man.
Terrific film, and a boatload of fun with lots of interesting twists and turns. And you know what? That was a really good dog.

I literally watched this for the first time last night too. Thought the writing was sublimely clever and the film wasn't afraid to get wEiRd. So worth watching, a great chill on the couch Netflixer
