The first one didn't suck...I thought it was decent. But I did like it much better the first time I saw it when it was called Taxi Driver. That was my biggest problem with it...they should've just made it a remake of TD.
but then they wouldnt have been able to call it Joker and get the comic book crowd.

I hope this movie is better than the first one. The first one suuuuuucked.

Which is why I'll be skipping the second one. The only way I can think to make it worse is to turn it into a musical.

I loved the first one. I thought the story was good, the script was good, the atmosphere was good, and Phoenix's unique take on the character was fantastic. I was excited when a sequel was announced but damn I don't know about this whole thing. Lady Gaga is immensely talented as a musical artist but she is unbearable to me as an actress. Taking the gritty version of the first one and turning it into some Rock of Ages type musical sounds like a joke

That's all that movie was. A collage of other movies.

Take away the Joker angle and all that bullshite, and really you've got nothing more than the origin story of a garden variety, incel spree killer or whatever.

It was a somewhat interesting clinical exploration but otherwise, a pretty dull movie. On the subject though of this particular version of Joker, a guy who bathed his naked mother and could barely hold a job. There is no iteration of The Bat that he's gonna defeat. An IROC-Z driving Batman with a strip mall black belt would still frick this guy up.

Its almost a direct remake of King of Comedy, with bits of Taxi Driver thrown in. Nothing original about it.

You're gonna hurt some feelings with that shite.

Yes, the comparisons are pretty evident. But putting that spin on the Joker was a novel idea. Seems he had always been an up-and-coming crime boss of some sort until “something“ happened.

It will be interesting to see if they fully develop how Arthur Fleck became such a random nobody to this central figure. Is he a crime boss, cult leader? Or is he just living in his own dream.

Better question is how is he going to turn Harley. In other versions he was always able manipulate her pretty easily. This version of Joker doesn’t really have any type of way with women

Just the joker name plus gaga is an almost guaranteed success

I mean, the Joker used to be the playground of giants and geniuses - Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger - heck, even Mark Hamill's voice work is in rarefied company with this character.

Jared Leto broke the streak. While I thought Joaquin gave a fairly sublime performance in the first film of this *ahem*, "series", this feels like it will go off the rails on a crazy train (with all due respect to Mr. Osbourne) and not in a "good" way.

A 15-song "jukebox musical"?

I’m going to treat this movie just like I did the first one.

By not seeing it.

Damn, we're going to have to look at Phoenix's caved in chest, aren't we? Between that and his harelip, he's hard to look at.

Hot take

Gaga’s arse is better than Robbie’s. It actually is borderline perfect
