romantic scenes from the past do NOT hold up well

the combination of cringey dialogue and transatlantic accent

Which is what I've read and heard. On nearly every "best of" list. I can't get through it.

Is it the effects? The acting or dialog? Just it being "old?"

I'd say other than some narrative issues, the movie itself holds up well.

Maybe try Rear Window, Notorious, or Rope instead then go back to NxNW.

Hell of an underrated horror/suspense movie. A personal favorite "anytime" movie.

Not sure. It's been a while since I've attempted to watch it. However, it's not just because it's "old"; I like plenty of older movies.

Any movie (not including super hero movies while those are good) by Nolan. The Prestige. No dispresect to his super hero movies but he is forced to write those movies in a certain way he doesn't have complete freedom like he did with Inception Memento and The Prestige.

Watch It Happened One Night - and imagine the type of censorship rules they were under and how wonderful filmmakers overcame it - of course it was one of the very first Rom-Coms - and one of the last films of that type before the Hays code.

But, when you have Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert - it works.
