Makes complete sense to me - I'll generally take sexy over beautiful - lasts longer, is generally more substantial.
A sexy girl is more likely to be good in the sack.
However, that is not the subject of the OP. (Marilyn, Bissett, a few others are both beautiful and sexy, which is a very, very dangerous combination.)
And as for Theron - I always thought her best look was Aeon Flux -

I didn't say ugly and sexy (which is a nice trick if you can pull it off as a girl).
But, say a girl is as beautiful as Belucci, but a wet washcloth for a personality. Then, a firecracker who might be an OT 5 (IRL 7) just owns it, sexy personality, attitude, etc., I go with her, and not the impossibly pretty doll.
