Life Aquatic isn't my favorite, however, I really liked it, and it's unfairly dumped on imo. To me, The Darjeeling Limited is his worst film. I hated it.

agreed. Moonrise was decent, but it was way too hipstery for my taste. Give me Bottle Rocket or give me death

Rushmore is his masterpiece. Moonrise is still incredible.

It was just fun - it has an independent film "feel", but with better acting. I don't know if it is a masterpiece, but, for my money, Wes and Owen haven't done anything better.

You're right and not only can someone make strong cases for Rushmore, Tenenbaums, and Bottle Rocket as masterpieces but I think Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of the best movies of the past decade.

I think Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of his best paced films.

i couldn't tell you where this one ranks among wes films, imo.

TRT & TLAWSZ are 1a and 1b, MK may be 1c.

Agree that the kids were not great and wtf with the 14yr olds making out in underwear...creepy. On the plus side, some of the camera shots were Kubrick-level and Anderson let Mothersbaugh compose a score-departing from the music vid feel of his other films.

If he ever tops Tennenbaums hats off. That film was perfect to me because of Hackman. Anderson always uses a group of introvert nerd geniuses that rarely open their mouths & laugh. Dropping a coarse antagonist like a grenade in the middle of them made for a perfect chemistry & one of my favorite movies.

I just liked Moonrise Kingdom. Rushmore is far and away my favorite Anderson movie. Amazing movie.

Bottlerocket is my fav with Rushmore a close second. I use this quote all the time:

quote:

One morning over at Elizabeth's beach house... she asked me if I'd rather go water skiing or lay out. And I realized that not only did I not want to answer that question... but I never wanted to answer another water-sports question... or see any of these people again
for the rest of my life. Three days later I was on my way out to the desert, and that was that.

it used to be on Netflix watch instantly but I don't think it is anymore.

This.

I am looking forward to the Grand Budapest Hotel. I think that will be a good one.

Considering the hype, I was extremely let down by it. I just had a cold response to it; it didn't move me one way or another and felt like Anderson was merely riffing on himself - that would be OK if that were the intent. It looks beautiful but as I said, I didn't connect with it whatsoever.
