I loved the premise.

Drop the viewer in the middle of a modern Civil War by following a group of photojournalists along a road trip through the hellscape.

Some intense scenes. Great music and visuals. Some great acting and some terrible acting (the young journalist).

I just thought the ending fell flat.

I'm not sure what movie the posters saying the journalists were heroes watched though. I certainly didn't view the journalists as heroes.

I didn’t think it went too far in that direction. They were sort of just “people that want to watch the world burn”, like when Joel (? Pablo guy) said the sound and sights of mortar fire on American soil got him rock hard.

They would have done better with another established female in the younger girl role.

Seems like a pretty accurate description of our modern media.

Tin foil hat time: the movie is conditioning the people to not shoot journalists when they show up to your civil war party irl.

Tin foil hat time 2: I’ll probably shoot journalists first.

Tin foil hat time (off).

journalist-hero propaganda
His goal was to bring to America all the horrors of war that we have seen from elsewhere on our TV screens for 50 years. Burning tire neckties, ethnic cleansing, militias, etcetera.

The use of journalists as the central characters was the perfect vehicle for doing so … as a series of unrelated vignettes tied together through a common narrator, in the style of World War Z (the. Brooks novel, not the awful film).

Its a bad movie.

Its a left wing larp and a view on america from the eyes of a British liberal.

The journalists will save us.

Do they do a realistic job of addressing why the military is not involved? I haven't seen it yet but plan to, and assume if there is an actual Civil War then the military is not in the picture otherwise it would be over in 48 hours.

The military is involved and makes sense in the context of the plot . But if you’re going into it expecting questions like these to be answered, then you will leave unsatisfied. The movie isn’t focused at all on those type of details on the war.

None of those guys saw the movie, they watched a YouTube clip of another guy who said he watched the movie and told them what he interpreted in the movie, which was all nonsense. But it feeds into a preexisting bias so why let that stop a good time

Not really, because the reporter characters aren’t really interesting enough to make them seem heroic.

It’s basically a road trip movie.

What sucks is that there was such an awesome story to tell which is what I thought I’d get. I thought I’d get a back story on why Texas and California teamed up or at least the major causes of the conflict. What had people to the point where something like this could happen.

Many of us believe we are heading down a dangerous road with the division we see and that wasn’t addressed. Nothing was addressed.

I haven’t been this disappointed in a movie since Prometheus.

That being said I’d rather spend my money on Civil War than any modern remake of a classic, another cash grab using an established franchise, or a superhero movie.

From what I’ve heard is that most people want more background on why Texas and Cali teamed up. Not enough backstory.

Yeah, that goes WAY beyond suspension of disbelief and the reason I doubt I'll ever watch this one. Just a horrible premise to start with.

T be simple answer that will disappoint people is so that neither the red states or blue states could say there’s a bias. The artistic answer is probably along the lines of both groups think our country is in the shitter, so they put the two stereotypically polar opposite states together.

I think this will be a pretty honest assessment.

Is it what the trailers portrayed it to be? Absolutely not. I went into the theater thinking it was going to be an action movie. It was not. With that, I was disappointed. It is very much an artsy type of movie. The director, Alex Garland, cared most about how a scene looked and felt. If you are going into it looking for something like that, than this is a great movie. Reminiscent of A Thin Red Line by Terrence Malik. Very artsy, not bad, but if you were looking for Band of Brothers action in Guadalcanal, it just quite didn't hit the spot.

This movie is all about your expectations. If you go in expecting what the trailers are promising, you will be greatly disappointed. If you go in, already knowing and wanting this to be an artsy movie, than I think you will like it. It is a movie about journalists with a few battle and other tense scenes mixed in.

I will say, Garland did a great job removing politics from it. You actually have no idea, politically and factionally speaking, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

What scenes, exactly, did you get this from?

None. The politards hated this movie from the beginning. When it's been shown time after time that they were wrong, they still lash out, even when they haven't watched the movie

It's OK. But wasn't what I was expecting. It's more about journalist doing anything for the picture. Rather than the actual war.
Assume cool scenes but i don't need to watch it again.
