I am on war movie kick, especially modern ones centered in the middle East. I just watched Body of Lies and The Hurt Locker and they were both AWESOME.

Any others that I should check out? I've seen The Kingdom, Jarhead, and Battle for Haditha.

I deliberately avoid any movies dealing with OIF or OEF.

really good, loved the Godfather

One thing I really thought was great was when they had the real people discussing the flim and one guys (driver) was bitching about who portrayed him compared to the Iceman. He goes he gets some Viking warrior to play him, two years later the same actor is playing a Viking Warrior Vampire in True Blood.

Three Kings is entertaining, but I am not sure that I would call it a "good" movie. I also would think that it's fairly inaccurate although I don't really know. Marky Mark and Ice Cube so you know what kind of acting to expect.

It probably doesn't qualify as a "war movie," but you should definitely see Zero Dark Thirty if you haven't already.

I havent seen Zero Dark Thirty yet but I think my roommate just bought it so I will see it soon.

And I agree, Jarhead was gay. I get the drama part of the movie and what its about but I was expecting more action.

Watch Generation Kill. It's an HBO miniseries following a platoon of Marines during the invasion of Iraq. Like a modern day Band of Brothers and it's fantastic. It's realistic and shows the not so glorious or heroic sides of these conflicts that most movies and shows leave out.

But serious though, if you like real/raw footage and heavy fighting, Restrepo is for you. There are no actors and the camera man has balls of freaking steel. My cousin was stationed where this was filmed and vouched for the authenticity of the fighting in that area. The Korengal valley was nicknamed "Hell on Earth"

Pretty sure Jarhead took place during Desert Storm.

Wasn't the director of rest repo killed in the fighting in Libya. Camera folk forget they can get shot at too sometimes I think.

Wouldn't doubt it. The Camera guy for restrepo has balls of steel. People are getting killed right next to him and he runs towards the gunfire
