I hated season 2 as well. Then by the end of season 5 2 was my favorite

I'm only 5 episodes in on the HD release, pretty solid, looking forward to the 3rd season I guess. Not anywhere close to GOAT. BB, The Shield and LOST had me more drawn in for a TV series.

But holy shite season 2 is garbage.
Season 2 is easily the greatest season. The problem is you just don't realize it yet. Many just get caught up in the glamorized drug/gangster culture of the the other seasons to realize a great story about the blue collar unionized workingman's blues and how it ties the entire series together.

I haven't watched the other 2, but the Wire is a much deeper more profound show than BB. I can almost guarantee the same about Lost. The Wire is about saying something real about how things work in the real world. Sometimes it requires some suspension of disbelief, but the picture it paints of corruption in Baltimore is absolutely amazing overall.
And this picture would not be nearly complete without the working class stevedores in season 2.

"Saved" more like sent them to ultimate demise

Season 2 is always the shittiest season until you finish the whole series. Then, after a rewatch, you understand that it's one of the best seasons.
fricking gospel truth.

Why do you enjoy it so much SFP?
what makes Season 2 a good season in your eyes?
watching Frank Zbotka fall was a fricking modern Greek Tragedy, man
it's a tale of moral relativity, showing just how fricked normal people can get when they move their personal boundaries even a little
look at what frank lost and where his family was at, comparing ep 1 to ep 12. and what did he do wrong? nothing really bad. he wasn't a hardened criminal who was "in the game".
also, we got to see the rise of stringer as he saved the barksdale operation from disaster
Keep fighting the good fight

It was a good show. But I agree.. Don't get the hype. I am a little into season 3 of The Sopranos and I think it is way better than the Wire so far.

I feel the same way.
While solid, I wouldn't put it in my top five.

As many have previously stated, season 2 can only be fully appreciated after watching the whole series
