I wonder if Luke could really sence the good in Vader or if he was just being optimistic about dear old dad?

Yeah i am in the camp that Vader had a change of heart at the end. Saw his kid being struck by lightning or whatever by the emperor. And realized it was better to save his kid.

In the novelization, Padme's ghost basically starts screaming at him to "SAVE OUR SON".

This is not an issue? Really?

No, it's not. There are tons of plot holes in these movies, this is not one of them.

Then you have ROTJ. A DS protected by a shield that had to be constructed on a moon near the DS.

This isn't a ship that can be built in a secure facility, this is a moon sized battle station. You have to build it somewhere, and a remote moon inhabited by 3rd world teddy bears is security through obscurity. Remember, the only reason the rebels knew was because many Bothan spied died to get that information. In addition to the shield generator and remote location, the Emperor himself, Darth Vader and a good chunk of the imperial fleet were there. Again, not a plot hole.

And maybe getting the shite Force shocked out of you for several minutes by Palpatine might take a little bit of the edge off.

Is this seriously in dispute? Of course this is what happened.

They should definitely remake the original trilogy

Maybe a minor gripe from me. But the emperor gets hit by lightning, and his face and body are permantly scarred. Luke gets hit by lightning, for a good bit. And he is fine. No permanent scars on him. What's up with that huh?

Emperor got hit by lightening when he was relatively young and new and not as powerful as a Skywalker and it was his own lightening reflected back at him by a Jedi. More importantly he was trying his hardest kill Mace. He wasnt trying to kill Luke. Maybe that had something to do with it. Plus maybe he wasn't doing it full blast. Maybe he was just trying to hurt him so Vader would kill him or he would kill Vader. I dunno.

this thread...it delivers, also I agree with the previously stated..Luke had just had the cap knocked out of him it's understandable that he would be a little wore out

Many sources say the deformed face was Palpatine's true form - the result if decades' worth of exposure to the Dark Side. The public face was a "force mask" - dropped at the opportune time to turn Anakin.

This. The jedis really need to raise the minicloron cap.

This or what I said about actually trying to kill Mace v not trying to kill luke. Or not yet truely being able to master something as powerful as force lightening.

I'm pretty sure he was trying to kill Luke at that point since Luke had rejected the dark side. And I also don't buy the fact that he hadn't mastered the force lightening when he fought Mace. He had been a Sith lord for a long time, and had deceived all of the Jedi during that whole time. Plus he had trained at least 2 other Siths (one of which he taught to use the lightening). Not to mention he went toe to toe with Yoda.

Now could Mace's light saber have applified the lightening? I guess. But I think he somehow used the lightening to mutilate his own face on purpose to help further convince Anakin to follow him.

When they were fighting on the new Death Star, Luke could sense the resistance in Vader to fight him. He even says "Your thoughts betray you, Father. I know you don't want to fight me and that there is still good in you."

Add to that a lightbulb probably went off in his head that from past experiences, once the Emperor potentially turned Luke, he would have had no use for Vader anymore and probably had him killed just like he did Dooku.

Or was it that the Emperor's lightning that got reflected back just melted off his deception and showed his true form?

shite, didn't read a couple posts later

ehh...

did he really though?

seemed to me that Vader just no longer had his heart in it and didn't want to kill his own son.

Never mind that Obi Wan whipped his arse on that fire planet.
