Neal Stephenson's new book is coming out in a couple weeks. It's called Seveneves

Thanks for the tip. I'm ready for another hardcore sci-fi novel from him. Of his books Anathem fits that category the closest and I thought it was outstanding. Somewhat of an old fashioned sci-fi book combined with The Name of the Rose and some social satire. He can be really good.

don't think they're sci fi at all, it's just a good topic of debate since you brought up raiders in the other thread

Yeah - that topic was "fantastical" film for a boy. In a way, you may be right, although Raiders is a better film, overall, because of "short round" - ToD might be better for that topic.

However, this thread is "hard" sci-fi.

Raiders is money. Temple of doom is underrated and crusade is overrated.

All 3 are awesome though crusade kind of rips off the original like jedi did with Star Wars

Moon and Her are phenomenal films.

I remember watching Her with my wife and telling ourselves when the credits rolled "OMG what did I just see? That was incredible". Spike Jonze made an absolutely brilliant movie. Sam Rockwell is one of my favorite actors and Moon was fantastic.

I couldn't stand Kiefer. My brain couldn't jive that character with Jack Bauer.

Because Tom Cruise.

I liked Minority Report. I also enjoy just about all of Cruise's movies.

MR just has a better story, better pacing, and is the concept is executed more believably. Despite the fact that literally the entire human race was at stake in Interstellar, I just didn't feel any sense of urgency to the plot and the chracters were just completely wooden.

Ex Machina is the best film by far of the year so far. I highly recommend you watch it in theaters. You can cut the tension with a butter knife, and not in a slasher flick mentality. Just a meeting of the minds. It's simply fricking brilliant.

San Andreas is coming out this month judging from your devolving movie taste. None of those films listed I'd classify as Sci-Fi films first. They're either horror, thrillers, or disaster movies first and foremost.

Prometheus is solid and visually stunning

Alien is certainly horror first. Let's just say they were instead trapped on a base with Antartica and set released something that caused all that. Still the same basic movie.

Prometheus is the most Sci-fi of those listed though.
