Deadspin nailed it with this write up on last night's episode. Spoilers in the link:

Spoilers below:

The problem isn’t that this episode included a rape, but that it did so in the service of bad storytelling. It told the audience nothing that wasn’t already known, and it didn’t advance any plot lines beyond where they already were.

I've said this from the beginning when Littlefinger said they were taking here "home". That if they allowed Ramsay to do the Jeyne stuff to Sansa, that it wouldn't move the plot along. We know he sucks. They could redeem Theon a different way. I didn't like it one bit.

Posted in the episode thread as well but can someone remind me, does Theon know that he didn't kill the boys? Or is he naive to them being alive as well?

In that number.

He knows they weren't really Bran and Rickon. He tells Ramsey as much when Ramsey helps him "escape" the first time.

Well, Davos told him to stick to the coast, and Dragonstone is an island, so he's probably just been rowing around in circles this whole time.

I have said this the whole season.

it was totally unnecessary.

I was hopeing she pull a dagger out of the sleeve and jam into Ramsay's neck

I wanted to watch this show and I saw season 1, but I decided against watching anymore of it after seeing how significantly it changes from the books.

Some people may think that is unreasonable.

Scruffy only has to be as reasonable as Scruffy wants to be. You do you.

Truthfully, the series is handling the material far better than the books, which meander, completely abandon characters, and sprawl out in far too many directions.

Be grateful that the showrunners understood that dilemma and are actually acting to address it by diverging wildly from the books, including foregoing the introduction of many characters (at least as yet). The fact that the show has to follow Arya, Jaime, Cersei, Dany, Jon, Sansa, soon to be Stannis and Littlefinger, they are doing a pretty damn good job of weaving those stories together without completely losing the audience. Because even the bookreaders got lost around this time.

I vehemently disagree with this. I hated to see it, but it broke Ramsay's grasp over Theon and it has finally hardened Sansa into being able to deal with the harsh realities of the world in the 7 Kingdoms. It may be the most important plot point this season as far as the North is concerned. You can bet Theon and Sansa will work together to bring down the Boltons and give Ramsay his just desserts. They hinted at that in the preview for next week's episode.

So many people hated that scene. I agree, it was rough and made me ill, but I see absolutely no reason to doubt that it did more than reaffirm Ramsay's evilness. I think that's pretty short sighted. If, in fact, that turns out to be the case, then Benioff and Weiss need to bring in help from some other writers to workshop their ideas, because there is no excuse for including that scene unless it is a major plot point.

Agree with this. Earlier in the season Ramsey acted as if he would treat Sansa with respect and was taken by her. The door closes on the last scene and it becomes very clear he is the sick bastard we have seen before. like the above poster said this will be what breaks the hold on Theon and I bet Sansa regroup and gets her revenge

I'm with you. I can keep up but my wife cannot. I have to pause it to explain to her. It's all I have not lose my shite. I like watching something without pausing it.

Finally hardened her?

Watching her dad's head get chopped off, her entire family murdered, little brother's burned and living with Joffrey for that long wasn't enough?

Cmon bro.

The only people who are worse than this are the one's who jump into a movie or a show half way through and ask a billion questions.

If you are correct, then I can agree with all of it.

I'm truly hoping that this isn't the case. Your reasoning makes more sense than this.

But Theon will have to break from "Reek" and do something to let Sansa trust him again. Like tell her the truth about Bran and Rickon.

There is worse than that. People like my gf who constantly ask shite like..

"How does Theon, varus and grey worm pee?"

etc etc. It's a nonstop struggle. And they just WILL NOT let it go.

Another D&D plot hole. Why hasn't Ramsey informed his father of this nugget?

He did. I don't remember when, but he told Roose in one of the episodes.

Well there's several other plot holes to choose from.

I guess I forgot that one
