Original 3 followed by the prequels or watch them in chronological order?
And don't say to skip the prequels. If I'm going to jump headfirst into the fad, I want to go all in.

Watch 4, 5,& 6 and skip the prequels. Then watch 5 again because it's the best.

4,5,6 then if you insist upon watching the prequels 1,2,3 ( i would suggest watching the anti-cheese edits on Youtube instead of the horrible theatrical versions)

Skip the prequels. We pretend they don't exist. They really are that awful.

If you're over twelve then don't bother. You really have to see them with a child's eyes the first time.

Sorry for your shitty childhood, but at this point you're damaged goods.

I would suggest 4-5-6 and then 1-2-3. Going this route you still get some of the surprises and twists that are thrown in. Now if you know all about those, or don't care, then watch them 1-6. But I would go in release order to keep from spoiling some of the surprises.

Actually your doing it wrong. Watch them chronologically but watch the CN Clone Wars in between.

I just did this about a month ago. You can google "Star Wars Machete rewatch" and there's a bunch of info why this is the best way. I wanted to refresh my Star Wars knowledge before TFA came out so I did a little research. I have to say, it was a fun few days and kind of gave me a whole different perspective on the whole story.

Machete order. 4, 5, 2, 3, 6. Skip 1 because it literally adds nothing.

Even better is to go 4, 5, 2, 3, 6.

There's no need for Episode 1. Save the time.

451236. Just watched it this way for the first time & really liked it. The OT holds up well and seeing the similarities & differences between Anakin & Luke makes both 3 & 6 better imo

Yep. Right after the big reveal in ESB, you "flashback" to 2 and 3 which prove the reveal to be true and show how things are the way they are in the original trilogy. That way nothing is spoiled and you know everything you need to know to set up RotJ

Machete order is the best as referenced here

4,5,2,3 and 6 treat 1 like an appendix if you really want to see a cool lightsaber battle at the end.

To me star wars is a story about Luke Skywalker, not Darth Vader. It is about his struggle to deal with the evil of his family and remain a good person. It is very much like Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings (movies). Aragorn never submitted to the one ring (evil) at his critical moment, and neither did Luke, unlike their fathers. It is all about, will he fail at the critical moment.

4 - sets up the Luke's story
5 - cements Luke's torment and struggle (just one of the best movies ever)
2 - We learn about Anakin and his backstory now that the big reveal has happened
3 - We see the birth of Darth Vader
6 - We return to the trilogy and see how Luke confronts the same moment differently than his father ultimately helping redeem the father.

I'd edit that. I don't think OP has ever seen them and you just spoiled the biggest moment in the saga

It gets so annoying how Star Wars fanboys decided that since they don't like the prequels, then no one does.

Watch the prequels. They aren't that bad, at least in my opinion.

I like the prequels, I say watch them. Machete order just provides a coherent plot line and restores the story arc of Luke over Anakin.

If you haven't seen the movies get, obviously 456123.

If you have though, I strongly recommend 123456. It's too jaring switching from the OT to the prequels and it's really not good from a consistency point.
