Everybody come and play, throw every last care away
I'm going to be a sad panda when this show ends tomorrow.

I'm not ready yet. I don't know if I'll have my mind right by 7 tomorrow.

Is it 30 minutes tonight, or do we get a proper extended send off?

Sure, it's a comedy that has also asked to invest emotionally in its characters. And I think its perfectly valid to ask "what are we laughing at?" There's an old comedy rule about never punching down. You make fun of the powerful, not the powerless, otherwise, you're just an a-hole.* The show has always been real good, if we deconstruct the joke, at making Barney ultimately powerless. He's a mass of fake posturing to hide the massive insecurities of a truly unhappy childhood. His conquests have always been able to cast as comedy because, ultimately, Barney is harmless.
But this show is about growing up. If Barney stays in the same place and doesn't grow up, he's the Fonz. And a show like HIMYM doesn't have place for the Fonz.
This is one of the most honest assessments of this show I've ever read. I never really thought about it like that, but I've always been in the group that doesn't mind seeing Barney grow up.

It's going to be weird not having my DVR set for 7 PM every monday. It's time for it to end though.

You manually set it every Monday?
I'm pumped about the finale. Even though I'm not as connected to the show as some of ya'll, I'll be a little sad to see it go. I just hope it's fulfilling and doesn't disappoint. And I have high hopes that it won't.

Havent watched in a few years. Anyone want to give me some cliff notes as to what has been going on? Wouldn't mind catching the finale.
Didn't he meet the mother last season? I saw the preview for the finale during March Madness. Looks like Barney and Robin getting married in the finale?

I'm willing to bet if you google the seasons you missed, you can get a solid synopsis. He hasn't met the mother yet, but every other member of the gang has.

They already got married, it's the reception tonight and whatever else they got planned.
Last few years, Ted ran through some randoms that were crazy/hot/had some other issue that made them not the one. He pined for Robin a lot, then eventually got over her a few episodes ago.
Lily bitched at Marshall, Marshall caved...
Barney kept being Barney until he figured out he wanted Robin again, Robin then took on Barney's personality and they got married.
That's the super simplified version.

This is pretty misleading to the poster who is a few years behind, btw.

That's why I put it's the reception tonight. That should imply the wedding was extremely recent.
