Did season 1 of lost and heroes both air at the same time?

No, when Heroes first aired, Lost was on its 3rd season. It got off to a rocky start, and Heroes was great at the time, and a lot of Lost viewers jumped ship for Heroes. The 3rd season finale changed everything though, and Heroes was never mentioned in the same sentence again as Lost from that point forward.

They need to bring back The Event...that was getting good and had developed an early cultish following.

Most of the first season of Heroes was great television. It had some great cliffhangers that really made you want to see what would happen next (Isaac's vision of NY being destroyed, time-traveling Hiro, Save the Cheerleader..., etc.). But the payoff at the end was a complete dud. They had built up this entire epic battle between good and evil and all these characters having to come together to save the world, then they gave us an anticlimactic waste of time.

I think the problem was that the build up to the season finale was so epic, with so many characters and storylines coming together, it was almost impossible for a tv show to tie it all together and be a satisfactory and climatic ending. Not to mention they screwed the pooch on Hiro's contribution at the final battle, and they made Peter so powerful that the other heroes didn't really matter.

I'm not rewatching Heroes, but you got to a point where Peter is invincible, Skylar is invincible, both forget who they are, no one cares about anyone else. fricking terrible.
Then there is a circus and tattoes, lol.

i really hope for their sake they leave Sylar out of this. They desperately need to move on.
It'll be interesting to see who exactly they use. I'm sure Zachary Quinto has gotten too popular. And Hayden Panettiere has her other show going on. Most of the others are probably available though.

I think the biggest problem with Heroes is that it became too popular. Suddenly you start adding characters and plots. Lost suffered a bit if the same problem but got it under control. I think a single 13 or so episode miniseries that has a defined story could work.

they had no story past season 1. i think that was their main issue.
the 13 contained episodes have potential to be good. but you know if its success it will spiral into a full show again and then leave the door open for the same dumpster fire to return. hope tim kring has learned his lesson.

Until the finale of Season 1, I'd say Heroes Season 1 was better than anything Lost had done at that point.
But yeah, by that finale (on both accounts), Lost took it to another level and Heroes went down the crapper.
Lost evened out after Season 3, and Heroes just kept getting worse. And worse. And worse. And worse.

Have to disagree. I'd say the Pilot, Walkabout, and Deus Ex Machina were better than anything Heroes did. Company Man is the only episode of Heroes I think comes close to these 3 episodes. I will admit though that before the finales, Heroes Season 1 was better than the 3rd season of LOST, but LOST really took it to another level, while Heroes completely shat the bed.

I still don't know why in the heck SyFy decided to cancel it. That was about as good of a show as they'll get.

Peter Petrelli was awesome because he naturally assumed everyone else's powers permanently just by being near them. Then they took that ability away from him and only allowed him to assume one power at a time, and that was only by touching the person. This was when I lost interest in the show. I wanted an all powerful character. I could never figure out why they took that away. If they make Peter all powerful again, I will watch. Otherwise, I will not.

The key failure was making everyone too strong. Then coming up with excuses for not using their powers to the best of their ability.
Looking at you Hiro and you never ending excuses for not wanting to mess with time or having headaches.
Waaaaaaa! I might mess up the timeline so it is better for me to do nothing and allow the planet to be destroyed. Waaaaaaa!

No Hayden Panettiere no care.

that would be a complete frick up on their part. you know who the most boring characters are? the most powerful ones. it gets harder and harder to tell a compelling story for someone who can do everything.
the best characters are those who have to overcome something much larger than themselves.

Yep, and making Peter as powerful as they did in the first season messed up the finale. What was the use of the other characters if Peter already had their powers? They should've had him only be able to to use one power at a time (which is what they ended up doing). That way the heroes could've teamed up to a greater extent and fought Sylar as a team. Instead it was a showdown with the two powerful characters, with the others basically just interrupting it except for Hiro (whose sword attach should've never worked against Sylar since he had a running go at him).

To each his own. The all powerful character is never boring to me. Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen and Superman have been my favorites to date. I personally prefer they not have to overcome something. I just like watching all-powerful beings doing awesome things. The worst parts of Superman involve Kryptonite and the worst part of Watchmen was Dr. Manhattan's angst of sorts. That probably just says more about me personally.
