They deserve to die for charging exorbitant prices that they've gotten away with for far too long.
This is some stupid shite.

DirecTV Now is $35 a month.
They are offering 3 months at $10 a month now. Your comment was from almost 6 months ago though. I'm very curious about what all I would lose by switching.
I pay like $170 a month for my directv service and used to only say I kept it for Sunday Ticket. No reason not to switch other than that I guess. This past year was the first time I didn't get Sunday Ticket and I didn't mind really.
I'll probably all directv next chance I get and see what they will do to keep me. $170 a month is freaking ridiculous. Normally I would call every year and tell them I was leaving and the would give me Sunday Ticket for free and a bunch of other deals. But I guess fee I didn't call last time everything had expired and I'm paying full price like a schmuck.

I liked DirectTV, although I didn’t appreciate that $400 fee they charged me for stopping service.
I cut the cord and tried Roku. While I love roku and still use it for amazon and Netflix, I’ve since gone back to cable. I wasn’t really saving all that much money, and not having cable sucked for sports. I like to channel surf and Sling is no substitute.

That's kinda what I was wondering about. I absolutely want my sports and live TV, but live TV is really just something I have in the background. I always look for something that I'm interested in then do something else while it's on, unless it's something I've never seen and really want to watch it. Directv now streams live TV, so maybe it would be fine.

Don’t cut the cord if you watch a lot of sports. My big thing is college football. On saturdays, I like to flip around through various games. Plus the biggest games are on networks. Sling doesn’t cut it. At all.
Plus there are thousands of free movies available On Demand (I have Comcast in Texas), so I don’t need roku for movies.
I watch some shows on Netflix and there are always good history documentaries on Amazon, and there’s a lot of cartoons my kids watch on Netflix, and I love watching music videos on YouTube. Netflix and Amazon (my wife gets the prime membership) are cheap enough to get even though I mostly watch cable. There’s no need for Hulu at all.

I guess I need to look into what directv now really offers. Their website is acting weird and won't let me pull it up on my phone right now. But there are no contacts and they are offering a free trial.

We've had Direct for 15 years now and they've been out at least a handful of times to re-point the antenna. Last guy said the bolts attaching it to the roof are coming loose.
You might ask them about replacing your dish. We did a free upgrade to the Genie system a while back, and the guy replaced our dish with a new model while he was at it. The new dish is much better in bad weather and such.

I cut cable probably close to a year ago. I use PSVue, Netflix, and an antenna. I read the people who said if you watch a lot of sports don’t cut cable, I find the exact opposite. I have access to more sports now because I cut cable. Never had an issue not being able to watch something, because either Vue or the antenna can pick it up. I’ll never go back to Direct.

I tried an HD antenna when I cut the cord, and I could only pick up a few crappy channels in Spanish (houston area). I have no experience with PSVue, but Sling was too slow and clunky to channel surf. It froze up often.

I’ve never had an issue with freezing or buffering. I was a bit worried I would and that I would have to up my internet package, but that wasn’t the case. PSVue also has a guide, so you can channel up or down but you can go through the guide. You can also add your favorite channels, shows, etc.

Yeah, I don’t know what the problem is. I did up my internet package when I went cordless. Really, the killer was my HD antennae was a dud. Couldn’t get any of the network channels. It doesn’t seem like that’s a common problem though.
I don’t recall exactly, but with the upgraded WiFi plus Hulu and Sling, my monthly savings weren’t as much as I’d hoped.

The only problem is that if you load up on too many subscription services, your bill could end up being right back in the cable or satellite ballpark anyway.
What is the typical bill here for just subscription services for you guys?
I have been able to maneuver my Direct TV to around $82 total each month with AT&T - that includes free HBO (I get a monthly credit on my direct TV bill ) AND the NFL season pass each year.
Only thing I pay for is Netflix 4K (for I really don’t include Amazon Prime for I use it a ton without the video - and I was able to get the student rate per my son).
I really don’t think paying around $95 (or $99 for Prime too on the average) for that much entertainment each month is that bad.

The Tech board has a huge thread stickied discussing this. It's the only reason I ventured over there.
