Has a show ever gone from really good, to bad then BACK to good?

Suits. First 3-4 season were awesome. Then I got sick of Mike and Rachel…. The season after they leave (8) was one of my favorites

I kind of liked the new Dexter. If that counts.

Possible unpopular opinion, The Wire. Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 sucked. Seasons 3-5 were amazing.

I’m not as hard on it as some but get the complaints of later seasons of the office. I feel like they did a great job in the final season after faltering around for 2 seasons after Michael left.

Dukes of Hazard had the Coy and Vance season.
ST Next Gen had the Dr. Pulaski season.

This is the best answer. Twin Peaks original season was great, original, and groundbreaking.

The second season was absolute trash. Because Bob Iger (yes that Bob Iger) forced David Lynch to reveal the killer, which he didn't want to do. The series went downhill after that.

BUT, 25 years later, Lynch created a third season on Showtime and it was excellent. He had full creative control and did all kinds of David Lynch surreal type scenes.

I think it is unique in television history. No other series had that type of comeback. And having almost all of the original actors returning made it extra special.

Friday Night Lights
S1-good
S2-bad (writers strike)
S3- good

In fact, they just act like s2 never happened

This is a pretty clear-cut example. The original creators basically abandoned the show after season 1 (there's waaaay more backstory to it than that), and left a bunch of writers who I don't actually believe understood, or cared to understood, what the show was fundamentally about. This was before the Lost/Mr.Robot style of shows had come out to set their kind of template. So they only thing those writers had to fall back on was cheesy soap opera tropes which just couldn't ever fit Twin Peaks at all.

If there had just been a truly innovative writer among the lot, or even somebody who understood the story and all of its underlying premises, one can only imagine what that second season could have spawned going forward.

I thought season 8 of The Office was awful, but the last season rallied and I enjoyed it.

Homeland and Outlander are my two

I love where Outlander has gone and we are now in the American Revolution. Crazy to think it’s the same show as the first few seasons.
