saw it last night. Really enjoyed it. Felt like I didn't need to stay for the after credits scene though.

I thought twice about staying for it. But I'm glad I did. It wasn't a surprise because I read about it, but I thought it was well done.

Of course I'm an old guy and remember when that movie first came out.

And the credits went by pretty fast so there was not ton of wait time.

Just got out of the theater and loved it. The whole theater was laughing throughout the movie.

Saw it again this weekend... It was even better the second time. Just a fantastic movie. Hell my wife even liked it and she doesn't really care for comic book movies.

I'm going to see it again next weekend with the wife and it'll be her first time seeing it too. Hopefully she likes it or she's gonna meet my alter ego, Donkey Punch Boy.

I saw it Saturday night and me and my sisters loved it. It was very Avengers like in that it had a good mix of action and humor. I might be crazy saying this but I like it more than Avengers.

In the comics, the Starlord name is bestowed on Peter Quill by an alien that comes to the NASA space station he is on. The alien offered this title to the person that proved worthy of it. The person who became Starlord would basically be an intergalactic cop. Peter Quill ended up getting it.

In saying that it's pretty obvious the movie isn't going this route

As stated earlier, in the comics they recently changed his backstory to a child getting abducted by aliens instead of an astronaut getting lost in space and picked up by aliens

I know. That's why I said the movie is going a different route from the story line originally in the comic. The poster I was responding to was asking how Starlord got his name and I was explaining how he got it in the comics version. In the movie version it sounds like Peter Quill's mom nicknamed him that.

In the comics, his father is the king of the planet of Spartax, iirc. He crashed on earth and Peter's mom nursed him back to health.

They fell in love, baby making, yada yada.

Nothing Crazy about that... GotG and Captain 2 were both better than Avengers IMO

The rest of the world will catch up. Once these movies are on DVD and Netflix and Epix... they's see how the completeness of these movies comes through on multiple views.

J'Sonn of Spartoi. Hence "Jason" as the middle name.

absolutely loved it.

I really only have 1 complaint and this sort of goes for most of the Marvel movies, they don't ever give much time to developing their villains. I thought malkeith in thor 2 and now ronan could have been pretty badass, but end up being forgettable.

He was.

Characters tend to get different motivations when they make the move from comics to Marvel Studios movies.

He has been before. It seems they're playing him as a mercenary basically, his services go to the highest bidder, or the one who threatens to make him lose power.

The Collector has been more bad than good, but that's a change. Post IG he was mostly good, or at least had "positive" motivations.

as I stated earlier, I dont think that's true. I can't even find a single issue where his origin story is like the movie.

This is from the marvel now issues which are his most recent story. Minor details were retconned from his original story. One is that Star-Lord is a title given to the prince of Spartax, where his father is emperor. The last pic, peter quill talks about joining NASA; he was not abducted.

He is trying to collect all of the infinity gems at the moment. So chances are he is bad or has bad intentions once he gets them all. Unless of course he is just collecting them?

Either way I like the movie origin storyline a billion times more than that one

That's my main problem with this, and Marvel in general, as well. Someone in this thread has pointed out, that the problem with the infinity stone storyline is they completely revolve around them. They've used them as ultra villain powerup 4 times in movies now. And with Thanos having acquired all of zero.

Really enjoyed GOTG, but just getting sick of the infinity stones. They haven't revealed much about them, haven't changed much about the way each one is presented.

The built in story of the Soul Gem could be interesting. The last two, if loki's staff isn't one, I know nothing about.
