I remember some talk about Idiocracy being delayed because Groening's Futurama premiered during production and the concepts were too similar. That was back when people were asking "When is Judge going to put out another movie?" Possibly just rumors.
Never heard that, but when it was released, it only played in 6 cities.

I think it's pretty clear that someone didn't want that message to get out.

The Hobbit trilogy

The edited version is pretty good where about half of material (anything not from book) is removed. Many of the ridiculous extended action scenes are dramatically shortened. I enjoyed it. And Martin Freeman is wonderful as Bilbo.

I'll add Wayward Pines (including both the books and the show)

Great call on whoever said Idiocracy. That movie was horrible (at least on TV...I've never seen it unedited).

I still love that movie because regardless of the obvious restraints it is still hilarious. It might be the biggest "what could have been in Hollywood"

I just wanted to drop in an Eragon vote in this thread.

I loved the Inheritance series of books and I was even more excited when I heard that Jeremy Irons was cast.

Then the movie was just a stinking pile of horse shite that was obviously just used to steal people's money.

I also vote for The Last Airbender. That is an abomination of a movie, but the source material is the best thing Nickelodeon has ever produced.

The matrix sequels. How could 2 sequels to one of the best action/scifi movies be so terrible?

I really think it's in my Top 5 Disney movies. Just really enjoy everything about it, and if they didn't have a single actual video game character, it would still be fantastic. The focus of the movie is where it should have been, and it's on the characters, not the cameo. Granted I think a few more Nintendo cameos would have been nice, like Mario, Ganondorf, Ridley, but if they could only get one, Bowser was the clear go-to considering the subject matter. Plus all the characters were in reference to Nintendo characters, Ralph being Donkey Kong, Felix being Mario, Calhoun being Samus, and Vanellope being Mario Kart in general.

I came here to post exactly this. Could have been a perfect fantasy series targeted at young teenagers that could "age up" into more than just a kids movie. They wrecked it.

Sure, the books aren't fantastic. They're filled with cliche fantasy and they drag in parts, but the story definitely didn't deserve that stinker of a movie.

Chappy. The villains were so unbelievably stupid but the concept itself was pretty rad.

Personally, I liked it when I was a young teen, but I could tell that 90% of it was filler, and that the guy ripped off Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and the Dragonriders of Pern without bringing anything new or unique to the table. I don't think the books age well.

The recent Narnia movies. And now they're even going out of order for the future ones.

Also, the Doctor Who tv movie in the late 90s. Great choice for the Doctor, but the writing was terrible... and that Master...

The best idea for a potential realistic comedy I can think of. The first 10 mins were the high point of this film....

Justin Long owns two of the best 3 cameos in comedy history.

1- Bill Murray in Zombieland
2- Justin Long in Zach and Miri make a porno
3- Justin Long in Idiocracy
