This is almost without question the crown jewel:

The universe is fricking brilliant and simple, and it allows you to basically do anything with it. On top of that, it was already filmed, and unlike most other animated shows, it took cinematography into account for it as well. This was a barrel of Miyazaki that was completely gift wrapped for Shyamalan, and then he took none of it into account and changed everything. It is really as if he took a 2 paragraph summary of the series and blindly made it into a movie.

Prometheus, not a terrible movie imo but a letdown for sure.

Why, oh why, did you even bring that crapfest up?

I never want to hear about that fricking movie again.

You want to hear more good news? Shyamalan recently went to bat for the film, said it's just as beloved by kids as the animated series is, and then said he had only one of two options: Make it stupid for 9 year olds, or make it as dumb as Transformers and have Megan Fox in it. The complete lack of self awareness is astounding, especially considering that the actress who played Katara went on to become the next Megan Fox in the Transformers movies.

Here's the link BTW: LINK

Really, with the right budget and visionary behind the camera, this could be the next Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter franchise. Yeah, Chris Columbus made the first two Harry Potters for kids, but everyone after that realized that these weren't kids movies; they were movies for everyone. Peter Jackson realized that as well, and didn't simply make a nerdgasm that hurt the film.

If they filmed all 3 movies simultaneously, make each one 3 hours long each, got the people who actually made the series to be involved, and treat the material seriously, we would have an incredible trilogy. I'd say the best director for it would be Edgar Wright, since he can balance character, action, and humor, which is needed for this series

I really hope Netflix buys out the franchise, and then goes to town with it to make it simply incredible and a household name.

I actually really love this movie. I know most hate on it but there is complexities there that are not easily seen. When this came out I was dating a lady with a young autistic son. The movie is really a great comparison of her Son and the main character.

Here he is talking about it with Alex Jones, of all people.

Talking to Alex Jones about 'Idiocracy'. Does that qualify as irony or just extreme meta?

Identity was ruined by a horrible, cliche ending.

Not sure anything can be done about that. The ending was the premise of the movie.

Unless you're talking about the surprise twist after the big reveal? I didn't find that overly cliche, personally. I won't say why to avoid spoiling it.

Hancock is a great choice.

The live action Dragon Ball movie has to be the worst executed movie of all time. The whole thing was a joke. There's currently a fan produced YouTube live action DBZ short that's better than that movie. With today's effect if you do it right and stay true to the source material a live action DBZ movie could be badass.

the premise of the purge is absurd and retarded. hinges on a ridiculous hobbesian fallacy

I still like Identity, and Idiocracy for that matter. But I understand why they would make the list.

Sunshine
Not that it's a poor movie, but with a different final 15-20 minutes it's probably up there with Children of Men as the best of the modern science fiction films. Great concept though.

Lost
No need to get into the weeds. Still good, But I think outside of production values, it was poorly constructed overall, with little regard of the beginning and the end.

That video actually doesn't explain his lack of funding and distribution very well. Basically, most of his funding was pulled and he had to cut corners and change the story to save money. For example, the narrator was not supposed to be a part of the movie, but was a cheap way of establishing the story and characters. They had zero special effects budget as well.

They basically had a problem with his "some people should not breed" message, even though it's so very true.

I remember some talk about Idiocracy being delayed because Groening's Futurama premiered during production and the concepts were too similar. That was back when people were asking "When is Judge going to put out another movie?" Possibly just rumors.

Biggest one that comes to mind for me is recent: The Purge.

Seems like the concept really had potential, but it was a dud.

Great call on whoever said Idiocracy. That movie was horrible (at least on TV...I've never seen it unedited).

I thought Identity was pretty awesome.

In Time and Jeepers Creepers belong squarely in the middle of this thread. Sunshine as well, even though the first 3/4 is pure awesome.

Im going to get hate for this, because i think the concept is so freaking good that it actually hides some short comings in execution but....Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind.
