Skagos or Last Hearth

Guess I need to refresh my memory, it's been a couple of years since I read the books. I don't remember reading about either of these places.

Want to see so bad. You would think there is something else there for Martin to have gone out of his way to include it in his plot.

Yep, I'm afraid by honor he's stuck in the Night's Watch until he dies.

Or until that Wall comes down.

Not necessarily. Honor is also to serve when you are the lord of a land. Go back to the last meeting with Rob and his bannermen. They all signed a pact declaring Jon to be the King of the North if Rob were to ever die. This seed was planted just prior to the Red Wedding, and it will play a role in the future (ughem... maybe... Jon? You there?).

What this does is put Jon in a position of choice: honor his duties to the wall (which he surely will question if he is still able to) or to his northern kingdom. The choice isn't easy, but I would say the most noble one would be to the Northern Kingdom.

If you are Rickon Stark - a little boy, but the putative Lord of Winterfell (assuming Brandon can't/won't serve because he's a cripple, and now some crazy Greenseer/Warg hybrid) - and you're running from other Northmen who want you dead - the only 2 clear options would be the Umbers (Last Hearth) and Manderlys (White Harbor) - the loyalty of those to Ned and Robb were never questioned.

But, Manderly either has them (and is keeping it very much on the QT) and is trolling Davos, or really thinks they've gone to Skagos - whether or not they actually have remains to be seen.

Before that, I would have bet money they were being sheltered by the Greatjon's family at Last Hearth.

We'll see (maybe), I suppose.

What if he dies and comes back, ala Donderrion or LSH?

Is he relieved of his oath? Will the North follow an "undead" Lord of Winterfell?

However, I believe, that, if what happens is what I think will happen, then he will have a bigger purpose than just Winterfell.

I still think that, at the end of the day, Rickon will be the Lord of Winterfell (or King in the North).

Thinking Rickon could be on Bear Island. 10 year old Lyanna Mormont: "Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North, whose name is Stark". Only Stark male that anyone knows of is Rickon.

Almost everyone thinks Bran and Rickon are dead - there are less than 2 dozen people who suspect either are alive.

Maybe they will do Bear Island on the show, but in the books, I don't think that can be. All things are pointing to Skagos.

Ahem. My number one theory.

L+R=J became apparent in the first book honestly. First season of the show as well.

Wyman Manderly refers to Rickon not Bran as his liege lord.

Don't dare tell the Hodors that - I had formulated R+L=J before I had read a single page.

Hodors say, "Hodor. Hodor, hodor, hodor. Hodor."

That seems very unlikely, given how criminally untold the story of RR is in the show

I agree, but I think there are steps to take. First I don't think he will come back in the same manner as Stoneheart or Berric, meaning limited by his wounds and death. I agree with the Azor Ahai theory, and he will be renewed in full at some point by Mellisandre. He will have to warg into Ghost for a while most likely, but one day be fully restored.

Once this happens, he will have to unify the North before working his way to King's landing. I think the NW is pretty much in his rear view mirror at this point moving forward. I believe the pact that was signed by Rob and his bannermen will unite them all under Jon, thus leading to him having the armies to overtake KL.

Then the real battle will begin, the one with the Others.

Yeah - I don't think the horn is the only way to drop the wall. I'm starting to think that the wall comes down at some point. Then it will most definitely be "on".

"Winter is Coming"

Indeed.

I'm curious to see who will be controlling Dragonstone when the Others head South. Seems like that Lord will be in the catbird's seat.

I think it is where Dany will set up camp, just as Aegon the Conquerer did.

I may be recalling this wrong, but I'm almost certain Thormund told Jon that the horn Mance had wasn't the real one. Or at least hinted towards that.

Wow. So much to talk about here.

MDS...If I recall correctly, Rob and Catlyn had an argument about who he name heir. I don't recall any pact being signed, other than Rob naming Jon his heir.

Manderly had the mute kid (Wex Pyke) throw a dagger at the map to show Davos where Rickon was.

The text read:

"For half a heartbeat Davos considered asking Wyman Manderly to send him back to the Wolf's Den, to Ser Bartimus with is tales and Garth with his lethal ladies. In the Den even prisoners ate porridge in the morning. But there were other places in this world where men were known to break their fast on human flesh."

This has to be Skagos.

Getting back to Jon. Does he truly have to die to be relieved of his Watch? The words were spoke, "And now his watch is ended". If he survives, he is free of his vow, right?

Well, the cover art for WoW is a horn. I guess it could be the dragon horn, but the name of the book suggests otherwise.

We shall overcome, brother.
