You do know what this means right?

Anyway, I can give a pass for the battle of the bastards because it does seem plausible for tactical reasons to wait until the last minute to flank and overrun Bolton forces. IMO the resurrection of Jon clearly does not qualify because we had seen characters be resurrected before and Jon is the metaphor for Ice and Fire, a person of importance enough to be worth bringing back.
I agree with that, and you also have to view it not only as each single event but also each even in the course of a show together and in comparison with one another. When looking at the whole is when it starts to devalue the story to a small degree, at least for me.

This phrase should be banned
If people don't like it, they don't have to watch.

quote:That is kind of the point, though. GOT made a name for itself by killing off main characters, unlike any other show I can think of. They are now employing the more common approach of fooling the audience into thinking characters are dead/dying, but then later revealing them still alive. I am losing that sense of worry that was part of the viewing experience.
Is this really different from most shows with action/drama?

I'm not necessarily concerned this season but all bets will absolutely be off in the final season. There's been far too much talk about the series ending in a manner where not everyone will survive and it'll be "bittersweet" (per GRRM himself).

All that matters is does it make for good and compelling storytelling?

For me, jon being dumb and getting saved all the time isn't compelling

what kind of a-hole willingly chooses to go take the black at the beginning of the series like that

What? He took the Black because he thought he was a bastard and wasn't going to be anything more than one of Robb's advisors.

And on top of that, I have no doubt Ned agreed with the call, if not pushed it, knowing who Jon is and the safety The Watch would provide him should a certain Baratheon King ever find out.

I mean it seems a pretty shite reason to go live on a big ice wall with no women. Just not a very "relatable" decision.
it was just a joke anyway ... but still

This was always bound to happen. The holes Martin dug in the books are not very easy to get out of. The TV series has done a remarkable job keeping the subject fresh. Martin will never finish the series for this very reason. He can now officially blame HBO if people don't like it and let people finish the literature version with their own opinions and stories.
We're past the point of anyone criticizing the first 5 books. GRRM is in the clear.
