4 threads in the last week that have defended his awful movies or just flat out praised him by saying he created star wars and Indiana Jones

It's pretty clear at this point he gets way too much credit for both

After I watched that Beneath the Dome documentary on making Star Wars I was amazed at how close they were to going off the rails and making a shitty movie. John Williams and the guy that created the sound effects also deserve a lot of credit for how good Star Wars turned out.

What about Willow? It is equally as great.

And yes, I thoroughly enjoy the prequels as well. So suck it.

I really like willow, but on no planet is it in the same stratosphere as the first 2 star wars or the first 2 Indiana jones movies.

Willow was the perfect timing for my childhood. I must have watched that movie and played that awesome Nintendo video game 100 times before age 10.

As far as Star Wars, he did create it, it was his idea. As you note Kurtz had some significant input with out which it would be total different and maybe lousy, I'm mean the prequels were pretty bad with him unfiltered and the best movie of the 6 was Empire, where he Kurtz aand Kershner had a lot of creative control, but it was still Lucus' brain child.

it's a cool movie from a decade that was really generous to the sci-fi/fantasy and adventure genre

but it's no empire strikes back (not that I consider that a bad thing. There aren't many films that can be mentioned in the same breath) and it's certainly no raiders of the lost ark

I really wish Kurtz and Lucas would've kept making movies together (well kirshner made empire)

it's fine that you enjoy lucas' new terrible movies or don't think they're terrible, but you cannot defend them by pointing to Lucas as the creative genius behind it all

I have a lot of respect for Lucas but he had some great collaborators that he owes his success to. Gary Kurtz was the 2nd unit director on Star Wars and Empire...a movie of that magnitude, that is essentially the co-director...particularly Star Wars where they had to speed shoot because they were given a week to finish the movie

Definitely a collaborative effort. Star Wars would have failed without Ralph MacQuarrie as well.

American Graffiti is a better film than any Star Wars or Indiana Jones movie.

And yes, I know, he had collaborators on American Graffiti.

I think Lucas is a good to great "big idea" guy, but he's terrible when it comes to the nuts and bolts of story writing/movie making. He needs people to tell him when his ideas suck, and to steer him onto better avenues.

That's why the prequels suck soooooooo badly.
