Max von Sydow cast as the Three Eyed Raven

quote:

The Three-Eyed Raven is getting a makeover in season six of “Game of Thrones” — Variety has confirmed that Max von Sydow will take over the role, which was originated by Struan Rodger in the season four finale of the HBO drama.

The enigmatic character is responsible for teaching Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) about his supernatural gifts, including his ability to transfer himself into the body of other creatures through the process of “warging.” Although Bran and his allies were absent throughout season five, they are confirmed to be making a return in the new season, which has commenced filming in Europe.

While von Sydow is not expected to have much screen time in season six, he will reportedly play a major role in the events of the new season. The same has been said of fellow new cast member Ian McShane, who is playing an undisclosed role.

Ian McShane will appear on the upcoming season of “Game of Thrones,” Variety has confirmed.

Details on McShane’s role are being kept under wraps, but he will play a key role in the season’s plot with a small amount of screen time, reports EW.

dude leave the damn race shite on the Poliboard. You have brought racial crap up for no reason in a few threads here this summer. You don't want to be labeled, then fine. But you sure do make yourself a target for labels.

I'd have to see that guy in costume. He's not what I pictured at all.

He's definitely younger than one would expect, but that's easily addressed by the make-up department. He could be great, and I'm digging his physical resemblance to the actor who plays Theon.

That news is old, but as far as who Ian McShane is playing, the most plausible theory is Randyll Tarly.

So we can put the Daario=Euron theory to bed forever, right?

From what D&D have said, they are radically parting from the books from this point forward. Sansa's story clearly being the biggest case of this, and they haven't even set up Jaime's animosity with Cersei yet. I'm really not going to take anything next season too seriously.

It was a stupid theory anyway.

I will provide exception to things that D&D confirm that happen in the book, like Stannis burning his daughter alive. Anything else, not really.

If Stannis is dead in the show, I don't think he's dead in the novels. There's far too much foreshadowing in the books that Dany and Stannis will meet at least once. I'm just thinking they'll simplify it to the Night's King for the Hodors.

They said that Season 5's diversions from the books are nothing in comparison to Season's 6 diversions from the books. That seems to indicate that they're going further away from the books. Granted, I think they're mostly referring to Aegon, Sansa, and Jaime's arcs in the books, but since I don't know where they're going with it, I'll take what happens in the episodes with a grain of salt in how they happen in the books.

I think they're trying to go in a different yet satisfying direction from what happens in WOW particularly. I still think it will end roughly the same, with a grand battle with the Others, they're just taking a different path in what it will take to get there. Jon I think will have the most consistency in what happens to him in the books, and maybe Arya and Cersei as well (although they have yet to set up Jaime as the Valonqar in that).

The only death GoT has shown class over is Ned's. I don't see any reason why a person who burns his daughter alive on a whim would be granted the same.

Well since they books haven't been written yet, there isn't much else to do.
