In the books, I'd agree. Although his face last night when Sansa mentioned Rhaegar capturing and raping Lyanna made it seem like he almost wanted to tell her but decided not to.

I thought it was interesting how much R+L=J was in the show last night. Especially considering they have never really touched on it before.

What are you talking about here? The guy said

David and David? The show-runners?

It wasn't plausible at all that the Unsullied would only have spear and shield for alley-way fighting. It's a load of bullshite and you know it. The showrunners just don't GAF and they needed them to lose.

My favorite scene last night was Stannis and Shireen. Beautiful.

I do wonder if the journey to Oldtown will take on new significance, and it's clear Shireen will be a huge player in the grey scale angle. Perhaps Shireen will travel with Sam? I also wonder if the Citadel is where information about R+L=J is kept. I would love it if Sam discovers the information and is the one to reveal all to Jon Snow.

I honestly don't view it as that big of a loss.

Well, I'd say it's Dany's biggest loss yet. At least when she banished Jorah, she had Barristan to fall back on for advice. Barristan served 3 kings in council, knows Westeros, and lent honor to any cause he fought for. Having Barristan arrive back in Westeros with Dany is pretty critical actually.

Who is she going to rely on now? Missandei, a glorified translator? Grey Worm, who is bleeding out and really can't provide any good advice besides what it is to be an Unsullied? Hizdar, who is merely using her to get her dragons? Darrio, who is also merely using her and doesn't give a damn? Dany better thank the gods that Tyrion and Jorah are on their way to her, or else she'd be up shite creek.

It's going to be Tyrion.

Makes me wonder if Selmy will be killed off in Winds of Winter.

Simply from a narrative perspective, I'm thinking he's a dead man walking. The odds need to be stacked up against Dany as much as possible by the time she reaches Westeros, and Barristan getting offed would kill basically the one credible person supporting her claim. Plus I think it would be a much better death for him to directly be killed saving Dany. Personally I'm thinking he's killed in Valyria since I think that will be the only open route to Westeros for Dany to sail through.

My point is Dany would be completely fricked if Jaime didn't release Tyrion. Yes, she will have to rely on Tyrion.

I'm still holding out hope that she has to pass through the Shadow.

But I agree Selmy probably dies. I have a feeling that the show runners know how ASOIAF ends and they are moving pieces in a more direct route than the books have set.

Which kind of sucks for readers.

Yeah, plus they haven't really set up Valyria in the show (aside from the steel) and from a special effects standpoint, I'd think Valyria would be expensive and hard to pull off. That's a location I imagine as being as grand and horrifying as anything seen in Middle Earth. The books have set it up in a way that I think we'll find out what exactly happened during the Doom of Valyria, but it's really just a fun fact for show watchers. Dany may get in naval battle in the next season, but I doubt she'll sail through Valyria.

Also, while I saw this episodes weeks back, does everyone else agree that Sansa falling into Stannis' hands would be Book LF's worst nightmare? I'd think even show Stannis would execute LF for what he did during the Blackwater, not to mention if he's aware of him betraying Ned Stark or the poisoning of Jon Arryn. Catelyn was aware of LF betraying Ned, so I don't see why Stannis wouldn't know as well.

I think LF has plans to ruin Stannis after Sansa is set up as Wardeness of the North.

I don't think he knows Rikkon is alive.

Stannis also made a comment last night while he was watching Jon train, something to the effect of, and I am paraphrasing, "Do you really believe he is actually Ned Starks bastard?" It's like Stannis knows who Jon Snow really is. Between him, the Red Witch, and the way LF acted it's like all of Westeros knows who Jon Snow really is, or at least suspect who he is, and this has all really come out of nowhere. Kind of ticks me off the way the writers are treating this like it is all of the sudden common knowledge.

That scene with Stannis and Shireen was great and really made him very likeable.

Is Varys still on his way to Dany? If so he is another solid advisor.

The whole Dorne story with the Sand Snakes is just, well, stupid. Am I supposed to believe this band of little girls are a threat to the Lannisters and Kings Landing? Yeah, OK.

A good tactician knows that the spear is good for long range attacks, so you abandon them when they get past your spears. And draw your shortswords. That's what the Romans did. Their shortsword was called a Gladius.

Apparently the Unsullied only keep their short swords on hand so people can cut off their nipples in a show of discipline.

I like that they are starting to put the questions of Jon's parents into the show

Varys could be on his way back to KL. I'd like to see his scene with Kevin Lannister played out in some way.
