After one episode it has been green lighted for a second season according to the author of the book series the show is based on.

No shocker but glad to hear it. The first episode was pretty solid and it might take a second season for the characters and theme to develop. Honestly I don't like the title "Game of Thrones". It suggests a theme of political intrigue during the period which could get tiresome after the umpteenth power grab. Should be interesting to see where the writers go with it.

Didn't Martin say that they're staying pretty true to the book?

the producers themselves have said it's one of their top goals, but that obv things may eventually need to moved around in the story to accommodate their limitaions. They've already got an incredible story written out for them. Also, they've already received the first 600 pages of ADWD as well as consulted w/ GRRM ab how the story is gonna end so that they don't change something that will end up being a big future plot point.

I haven't looked at the making of stuff very much. Have they said that this season will end with the end of the book and the next season will be A Clash of Kings?
