Maybe I'm remembering this differently from some of you, but I always thought Lex Luthor used his brain more than his muscles, as a supervillain.

Luthor should still be physically intimidating though. If you just saw a picture of Lex and Superman standing next to one another, and you have no other knowledge of the two characters, you should say that you're pretty confident Luthor can kick his arse. Sure he can't, but Luthor needs to put off the intimidating presence and demeanor that make you think he can.

Isn't Lex supposed to be more of a nerdy brainiac type??? If so, then how is this not the perfect casting....

I imagine Lex Luthor to be more like this: LINK

He's still physically intimidating, but the fact that Superman's raw strength make Lex's look like nothing pisses him off in just for the simple principle that Lex has to work at it, and Superman has it without even trying.

No. Lex is intimidating physically and intellectually.

He should look like the type of guy that not many people would frick with on his first day in prison. Even if they don't know his name.

I was wondering to myself if James Woods would have worked as Lex.

Actually the cartoons and animated shows made him look bigger than he was (at least before he took the venom steroid in The World's Finest storyline). Some artist made him look "thicker" than other throughout the ages. But I don't recall him being near as big and "muscled up" in the comics as he was in the animated world, especially the New 52 universe. Here are some comic pictures of him:

I kind of like the idea that Luthor is a little younger.

Side note: Man, All-Star Superman was so damn good. I wish Zack Snyder would have used some of it in Man of Steel. Just the scene with Superman comforting the Goth girl who was up on a ledge because she got stood up by her shrink.

This I won't pass judgement. But then again, I have no desire to see this shitfest unless the reviews surprise me.

Heath Ledger's legacy - to be the rare exception and thereby become the argument to excuse poor casting until it's too late

As with almost everything DC related, Bruce Timm and the folks at DC Animated nailed Lex perfectly in the Justice League cartoon. Why the holy hell that guy and his team were not given carte blanche to set up the DC Cinematic Universe I'll never know...
