I never planned on seeing this because I didn't want to watch anything that might take away from the first Scream (top 3 horror film of all time) and horror sequels for the most part suck anyway. But my niece came in town and wanted to watch a scary movie so I caved and watched Scream 2.

It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Actually would have been legit good if it wasn't for the final scene/killer reveal.

The scene definitely fell in the cliche "no don't go in there you idiot" decision. She gets away from Ghostface after the car crash (after her friend gets her throat cut because they took an hour getting out of the car and never pulled his mask up) and instead of calling or even running to the police station she runs into... and empty school auditorium I mean on what planet was there reason to go there other than it being a great place for Ghostface to find me.

Billy's mom being the second killer was also a bit dumb too but I get them wanting to have a second twist. Though Billy's mom losing weight being the only reason she wasn't recognized wasn't a legit excuse.

Overall, better than I expected. Had some decent scares without being gory, which is what I prefer. Semi-predictable but not too bad.

Any of the others worth watching?

When you're in a horror movie, you make terrible decisions

That's exactly what I was thinking of when she went in there Just a bunch of chainsaws hanging from the ceiling.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is pretty cheesy and nonsensical, and I love every second of it.

Pretty sure they mention some plastic surgery or something in there as well.

Yea I've done broke the seal, might as well watch em all now.

I'm assuming Dewey is just going to be solving crimes in a coma like Denzel in Bone Collector in the next one. Getting shot left him walking/running like a retarded person, no telling what he's going to be like after getting stabbed like 20 times.

Ahh, that's a little better, must have missed that.

Satirizing horror tropes and cliches is kind of the whole point of the franchise.

While I really love the premise for 3 I don't think it was executed all that well. IMO it has the worst twist, worst killer motivation, and worst ending. Parker Posey is great though. I wish there had been more of her and Gail together.

*spoilers*

They really should have cut that awful attempt at a jump scare w/Sydney's dream sequence. It doesn't fit the tone of rest of the series at all and was so poorly done that it completely takes you out of the movie. What's weirder is it could have maybe been a good little subplot if seeing her zombie ghost mom had been something more like Roman using movie props, special effects tricks, and makeup w/an accomplice to make Sydney look crazy to everyone since he was planning to frame her. Sort of like the movie F/X when Bryan Brown uses his special effects skills to beat the bad guys.

You can blame the internet for that. The original ending from the script was leaked onto the internet and Kevin Williamson had to write a new one. The original script is still out there for you to read. I haven't read it in years, but if I remember correctly there were three killers - Mickey, Hallie, and Cotton - and the film ended on something of a cliffhanger. That reporter played by Laurie Metcalf was morphed into Billy's mother and turned into a second killer at the last minute.

I haven’t seen 6, but 3 is by far the weakest entry, in my opinion.

I think 4’s “motivation” was ahead of its time for when the movie came out.

I liked 5 when I saw it in theaters, but didn’t think it held up all that well when I watched it on HBO later.

All in all it’s a good horror franchise.

Worth it just for Jennifer Love Hewitt but yes both of those movies are cheesy and great. Two of my favorites.

If you can make it through 3 then 4-6 are really solid entries. The only thing I hate in Scream 4 is the weird dark filter.

I really enjoy those 90s/2000s cheesy slasher movies

Just sit back don’t overthink it and enjoy it for 90 minutes

And don’t forget to watch the Scary Movie franchise if you haven’t already

Wow, that's interesting. That's unfortunate. Can't really hate on it too bad if they were having to scramble to write a new ending last minute. I'll try and find the original script, curious what Hallie's motivation would have been.

Alright I think I'll push through 3 and give all of them a try. Do they turn into really gory stuff later on? The limited gore is kind of part of the appeal to the first one for me, it feels more like an old school horror film than new school.

3 is the least bloody of the series, it was a completely different script and then Columbine happened and they changed it and toned it down and went away from kids killing kids. That's the reason that it feels so much different than the others.

If you like the gory, violent stuff 5 and 6 are for you
