I can't stand Eddie Redmayne, but I am looking forward to this movie quite a bit. I am a Harry Potter nerd just as much as I am a Star Wars nerd (and Lord of the Rings nerd).

Maybe....but it's also giving a lot of people what they want: more of the HP universe. I actually like the trend of expanding the universes of these franchises like Disney is doing with Star Wars and the "Anthology" films. I think spin-off HP films could work if done right.

I said the same thing when she wrote the books, is it going to stop me from reading them and eventually going to see the movies... nope.

This movie is based on a "companion" type encyclopedia book to Harry Potter. There is no real story here. I'm concerned about that.

Other than the name and "author" of that book, the movie is a completely original story (screenplay written by Rowling.) Newt Scamander (Redmayne) travels to 1920's New York City for a brief visit, magical creatures get loose, and Newt must wrangle them up. Meanwhile, Wizard and No-Maj (Muggle) relations in America are not good, so that is another factor that Newt and wizards must contend with. It should be fun and interesting. It expands the wizarding world to America which should be fun for us.

It can't be worse than the last 4 Potter movies, can it?

All of the money from the books went to charity.

Didn't know that, but isn't surprising for JKR.
