It was reported that he was trying to get this doc off the ground last year. NOW he's going to be put in danger if it goes forth. One has to wonder if there would be this much hand wringing for Spicoli's well being if HIS production company was going forth with it.

What a lengthy and detailed article

Will not defend the reporting. Just happened on the article. Just meant to call attention to the hypocrisy that now this series is dangerous and people will have blood on their hands but that never came up last year when Penn was involved with pretty much the same project. Just think if he and his crew would have beaten them to the punch this concern for his personal safety would not have been an issue.

quote:
Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., Penn’s lawyer, wrote a letter to Netflix explaining that the release of “The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story” could potentially put Penn in danger because the series implied the actor helped the Department of Justice apprehend the notorious head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, The New York Times reported.
Well it was widely speculated he helped in the apprehension at the time, so I'm sure the cartel blames him somewhat. I'm sure this doc isn't going to make one bit of difference. And the drug dealers aren't going to go after a Hollywood star.

Maybe he can seek refuge in Venezuela. I'm sure his buddies in the government over there would protect him.

Not clicking the article. Netflix did just get a producer killed right?
A producer and location scout was executed? Netflix might be a little skittish.
And if I were Sean Penn I think I’d scratch Cabo off of my vacation destination possibilities.

He didn't know the potential risks of meeting with the most powerful drug lord on the planet?
If I'm Netflix, I'm telling him we'll hold it back once Penn reimburses us for production costs and loss of revenue.
