I don't think that's how the ratings work. Nielsen only uses households with a TV plus network access whether it be cable/antenna/satellite/combination.

I've gotten those surveys in the past, although I guess not since I cut the cord. If they aren't accounting for cord cutters then their numbers are probably way off.

Big shock, SNL won everything, no one watches that show anymore.

What?
stranger things, the handmaids tale, big little lies, transparent, the crown, house of cards...

Netflix alone had 91 nods. With 20 wins. HBO had 29 wins.

I agree. It's pretty well known that the rating numbers are off.

I doubt cord cutters are a big part of the target demo so that's probably why it's not effecting it too much.

And you think that's because the Emmy's is trying to market a certain group, not because those networks produce vastly superior products?

I couldn't care less about celebrities patting themselves on the back for their so-calley achievements.

Only one I slightly care about each year is the album of the yard award at grammys, as I like to check out what is considered the best album of the year.

People only watched this shite when they had few options.

They're certainly late to the game in acknowledging the medium to the degree it deserves. They are absolutely superior shows, but they have been for years (not counting the Handmaid's Tale, which was season one).

When I got home last night the tv was on the Emmy's. Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda were presenting. Jane Fonda started talking about them having to deal with a racist, sexist, bigot as a boss in 9-5, she then went on to say how ever many years later today they are still dealing with a racist, sexist, bigot. That's the only thing I saw before changing the channel, I can only imagine the rest of the awards show was pretty much the same message

maybe if these folks would go up on stage, accept , say thanks and GTFO instead of bombarding people with their own political views... people might watch.

I never watch any of these award shows. It's just a bunch of Hollywood libtards patting each other on the back.

people can keep beating on that drum and viewership will still decline.

i think Trump is a patriotic buffoon, at best. i think police are to overzealous with the black communities (at times.) i bring these two things up because i feel those most impact what i would otherwise watch in form of live viewing.

all that being said, i'm done being told what opinion to have from people with less real world experience, education, and humility than myself and i'm not going to sit down and give ratings and ad revenue to people that think i'm a racist, transphobic, homophobic, and misogynistic simpleton.

you know why i like game of thrones? because i get to turn off my brain for an hour and cheer for whoever i want without being judged for it for 1 hour a week.

exactly.
I could really care less about what is happening on Fox News or CNN. I also don't care about random peoples political or societal views.
Nothing irks me more than when i'm watching a show like Agents of Shield and they throw in some subtle jab at the president. If i were watching Family Guy, id expect it.

Same goes for sports.

Same. Let me tune in to see Handmaid's Tale - a show nobody I know in real life has enjoyed - praised all night because Trump's America and some dumb dystopian show are so similar.
