When you know that every joke is gonna be a Trump joke and that people will blow hard during their speeches, yeah, it's gonna be low.

I have no idea what the difference is between the various award shows.

I did see that they were on the other night, but I can get my trump rants and jokes on twitter, so I had no interest in watching it.

I know everyone likes to say that people aren't tuning out of ESPN, Hollywood, the NFL etc due to constant SJW causes and political opinions, but that's specifically why I didn't watch.

No thanks, Hollywood. Like I want to watch a bunch of pampered, strident millionaires give each other awards and talk about how wonderful they are. Their political views are no more important than anyone else's.

I hope that they keep believing that. I most certainly have stopped watching the NFL due to their pregame antics. And I won't go see certain movies due to the political actions of some stars. I hope that they just keep on doing the same things that cost them the election.

2018 is gonna be a shocker for them. But they'll never believe that they are getting these outcomes due to their own actions and words.

Award shows for theater and music are meaningless IMO. They put those on for their own self congratulations and ego.

I watch the movies and that should be enough. I don't care if they receive a trophy. My money is their victory if they gain it.

you're fairly rabidly anti-trump and people love to compare HMT to Trump's America.

so...... cool?

I just like the perspective of the show. The evil comes out in people when there are limited precious resources.
My political views have nothing to do with what I like in entertainment. I can separate the 2 unlike a lot of people these days.

sorry if it came off as combative. wasn't my intention. i was just correlating your disdain for Trump (which i share with you on some fronts) with liking HMT.

this i take issue with. you say that like it's a bad thing.

why do i want to buy tickets to a movie or give ad revenue to somebody who thinks ill of me? i, for the most part, can ignore that, but i'm not going to mock somebody who takes it personally.

I see your point, but I'm purchasing the tickets for my benefit not theirs. If a secondary benefit is passed on to them then so be it.

Television writer Ken Levine has a great breakdown of why he thinks the ratings were low. His blog.
quote:

The obvious answer is that no one has seen any of these Emmy winning shows. Or in many cases, even heard about them. And that’s not to say that they’re not totally deserving of their wins. The shows selected were excellent. But study after study shows that the vast majority of the country doesn’t know they exist. They’re on delivery services many people don’t have (or don’t want to have because of the cost), and in such a crowded marketplace it’s almost impossible to get noticed above the din.

I guarantee you this: If these shows did not send screeners to every TV Academy member, and if there was not good word-of-mouth within the community, most of them would never get a sniff from Emmy. If Hulu had to rely on TV Academy voters finding, subscribing, and watching THE HANDMAID’S TALE (even though it’s from a popular book) on their own, their outstanding series would be overlooked. And that’s people IN the television industry. So imagine folks who aren’t.

quote:

People will contend that the Trump bashing turns off viewers. Yeah, well, I tend to think these are the same people who wouldn’t watch THE HANDMAIDS TALE or BIG LITTLE LIES even if they were on FOX News.

quote:

Competition is also a factor. Last night’s Emmycast competed with a Sunday night NFL game (although that turned out to be a blow out) and the launch of the Ken Burns documentary on Vietnam on PBS. You might say, “So what? PBS?” Well, think about it. The audience that would watch the shows nominated for Emmys are probably the same people who would be interested in a compelling documentary on the Vietnam War.

quote:

I also contend that we now have award show fatigue. There are so many of them, and some of them overlap, that it has severely tarnished the “event” status that big award shows used to have. Remember, for many years there were the Oscars and the Emmys and that’s it. Not even the Golden Globes were televised live.

Does anyone care about Emmy ratings except people who want to believe this?

Youre right. An I am one of those people.

I have no interest in watching the Emmys, regardless of their views. However because its a Trump bashing and patting on the back of liberals, I do want their ratings to suck.

Doesn't matter though. They love themselves too much to change or care.
