There was. A brain is required to understand it, though

My high school English teacher, who was brilliant and taught me how to write, did say that a movie wasn't worth watching if you couldn't follow it with your eyes closed. I thought about his words during this movie.

Sounds like terrible advice. Not surprised an English teacher would think that however

To be fair to this mouth breather, I think the film doesn't have a climax, but all it means is he's too stupid to understand what the movie was about and represented. The 3 Act structure is highly recommended, but not required. 99.9% of films do need it, but there are those rare exceptions like 2001, A Clockwork Orange, and Dunkirk where it isn't necessary. You got to take it on a movie by movie basis. If the film maker is competent enough, then it's not an issue like in this movie.

The OP is an attention whore and has no clue what he's talking about. The movie is all about you living Dunkirk, and it is a triumphant success in that.

With this sage wisdom, it's easy to see why he was only a high school English teacher.

It is film not radio.

Saw it today and was underwhelmed. There was some good scenes but I never felt the intensity everyone is raving about.I enjoyed the air engagements scenes. Perhaps if Nolan added the rear guard fighting of the Nazi it would have added to the sense of impending doom.He never even called them Nazi just the enemy.I guess the younger crowds cannot relate. I will have to read up on Dunkirk, just a cursory knowledge of the event.

That is the worst advice I have ever heard.

The music and dialogue are a huge part of movies, yes, but visuals are just as important.

How many movies can you follow with your eyes closed? I would imagine only movies that are extremely heavy on useless exposition.
