Does Kurt Russell have a seat at the “greatest American actor” table?

He started out as a child actor and somehow made it out alive.
His resume is incredibly diverse and everyone is aware of his most famous roles. Not to mention, he seems cool as frick and has been consistent in his work and life.
Watching Escape from New York now, which I’ve not seen in a while. Slow Saturday and curious what everyone thinks about his status.

Not the best actor of all time but for sure one of my favorites.
He’s awesome in The Thing.

This is where it gets tricky. I don’t know exactly how many, but just the length and quality of his career should get him invited, in my opinion.
Just went to his wiki page and saw that I share the same birthday with him. March 17. frick it, good enough for me, he’s at the table.

Ok, he and his dad are some cool mf’ers.
This was in his dad’s bio:
Russell was born in Brattleboro, Vermont, the son of Ruth Stewart (née Vogel) and Warren Oliver Russell. He always wanted to become an actor and studied drama at Brattleboro High School. He grew up around the New York Yankees’ spring training camp in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the 1930s and 1940s, where his father ran a floatplane service. As a result, he was an unofficial mascot of the New York Yankees, and became friendly with players including Lefty Gomez and Joe DiMaggio. When Lou Gehrig was weakened by illness, he gave Russell the bat he used to hit his last home run before retiring.

1966, Russell was signed to a ten-year contract with The Walt Disney Company, where he became, according to Robert Osborne, the "studio's top star of the '70s".[1] Russell's first film for Disney was Follow Me, Boys! (1966). Walt Disney described Russell as "a 15-year-old boy for whom I predict a great acting future",[18] in what would prove to be Disney's last filmed appearance before his death in December 1966. One of the last things Disney ever wrote was the name "Kurt Russell" on a piece of paper.[19]

He has kind of an everyman appeal. I'm not able to think of a perfect comparison but Henry Fonda is similar in some ways.
From his era Kurt is in rare company. He has longevity stretching back to childhood acting and been in his share of blockbusters and cult classics.

I was seven. It was my favorite movie.

Follow Me Boys IMDb
His career was similar to Mickey Rooney's in that they both played orphans named Whitey In a movie they made as a kid, and both had really long careers.
Rooney was Whitey in Boy's Town (1938) IMDb opposite Spencer Tracy.
ETA:
Follow Me Boys is still a good movie. Sure it's straight out of Mayberry, but those were simpler times. Whoever made Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) probably watched it for ideas to steal.

Didn't he basically grow up in Oregon and just worked in Hollywood?
I'm sure that would have a great effect on him being normal.
