Eating at a bar in a restaurant and going to a the movies are two great things you can do alone and are quite socially acceptable, especially if you have a very hot lady at home

My question is: Why would you leave her at home?

I do it by myself, just because I'm trying to watch the movie and get out, fast enough. Other than that you really don't go somewhere, where if you talk too much your about to get kicked out by the cops.

My reasoning is to say: Socially In dependency.

And that said, I have gone to matinees for 15 years alone on a regular basis. If you are that uncomfortable in your own skin, then you are fairly lame. Plus, who wants to talk during the film? I would never let a lack of companionship stop me from a movie or most everything for that matter (i do draw the line at dining alone at night at a table)

breakfast, lunch or at a bar is fine

Seriously? This turned into armchair psychology? I'm just a social person who enjoys company. I just enjoy a movie exponentially less if I watch it by myself. Just a personal thing.

I didn't really have you in mind .. just speaking generally about anyone that would have a problem grabbing a flick alone because they are alone.

1 out of 4 movies I see alone at the theaters. Some movies I have to be in the mood for, so if I feel like seeing a mystery at 1pm on a Saturday and no one else is around, I may go alone. If everyone is going to see a new comedy on Friday night, I'll join them...and sit on the end. For me, groups are for the things before and after the movie.

Don't see anything wrong with it.
Your sitting in a dark theatre looking ahead for 90+minutes so imo, it's not a big deal.

I don't. I don't usually have dinner alone, but if I'm travelling alone for work, I'll eat out and sit at a table. I usually sit at the bar just to watch whatever game is on or chat with the bartender, but not all restaurants have bars. If the people around me think I'm a loser, so be it.

Some good feedback in this thread. The last 2 movies I've seen in theaters were The Hangover and Dark Knight, so it's obvious I don't go to the theaters that often. I've never seen a movie by myself before, but I'm so pumped about Inception that I've been considering it. After reading this thread I've basically made up my mind that I'm going to go after work. I figure at 6:30 on a Tuesday it'll be pretty empty anyway. I can't wait!

Just kidding. Enjoy it man, sometimes, especially for a film like Inception, it could be better.

Yeah, I went to my first movie by myself today and saw Inception. It was a good choice.

The only reason I wouldn't watch a movie by myself is if it's a rated G flick. I'm not trying to be the creepy grown dude by himself watching "Up" in theater full of kids.

I do if I really want to see the flick. Fewer distractions.

how about that creepy skinny balding guy who shows up at the cub scout pinewood races here in nashville to race his car. its a little awkward so we have an 'adult race' division so he can get off racing his latest rocket. maybe one of the scouts should adopt him as their dad..?

..then again maybe thats a really BAD IDEA

eta i think he reached maximum creepiness when he started jumping up and down with his hands raised in the air after he won
