I read the original screenplay and it was far superior to the actual film. I wish he would've kept it in its entirety instead of editing so much.

primarily set in the south and is a love story and slavery story.

Many westerns have a love story as a backdrop. Also, I've never been to a video store that had "slavery" as a genre.

Edit- and yes it was way too long they should have dropped the last 25 minutes

It's basically-a-western in the way that many QT movies share characteristics and themes of westerns.

Antebellum South just really isn't the right setting for a true western albeit closer than Kill Bill.

Any movie with a love story and a revolver, apparently.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't remember it being a western at all. Sure they ride horses and there a few western style scenes, but the vasty majority of the movie takes place in the deep south and revolves around a black guy, a slave, and a rich white slave owner.

It was an okay movie, but If I'm going to re-watch another 3 hour QT film, it's going to be Ing. Bastards.

I'd much rather rewatch inglorious bastards, reservoir dogs, kill bill, Jackie brown...come to think of it, Django might be my least favorite.

Well I learned from this board that a western doesn't have to take place in the west, as long as the director says he likes spaghetti westerns.
