Absolutely. I'm kind of in shock. I had no idea this was in the pipeline. How did they keep this under wraps during negotiations?

You'd be surprised at how many negotiations take place via the backdoor. Besides, LucasFilms and the House of Mouse have worked together on many productions before. Not hard to have some meetings without anyone getting lippy.

Just realized that Avatar will be coming out in the Winter of 2015.

I don't see how you do a post Jedi trilogy.

Chris Hemsworth as Han?

How do you recast these iconic characters?

Screw that.

Who would star?

I think Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher can probably work it into their schedules.

WHY THE frick??!?!?

Kill it? This is the best thing that could happen to this franchise. Say what you will about Disney's past of mishaps, but their big budget fare is done right. Don't believe me? Pop in a copy of The Avengers.

Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass `Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Smartest thing I've heard Lucas say in a long time.

This is the greatest thing to happen to Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back. Lucas is no longer involved in the creative process. Some quality people (with actual input) will be working on this film.

I dont like the fact that they are setting a release date already. Unless they have the director, actors, and script lined up already. I really hope they take their time on this. Like someone else said, the abysmal abomination that was the prequels provides a good roadmap for what not to do.

Maybe they could do it as CGI? Or better still remake the prequels

Yeah. If they want to do CGI side projects, that's fine, but I'm ready for some exploration of uncharted territory via live action.

For those asking about recasting, don't assume they're continuing Han/Luke/Leia. They might go further down the road to their kids.

I wouldn't go that far...the movies are going to be based on his "treatments" and he will serve as a consultant on the movies...the good news is the movies will be better written, cast, and directed and My guess is the use of CGI will be done far better

I think episode 7 starts a good bit in the future.. years after all the old characters have died. That's where I would start, and I'm 99% sure that's where ANY writer will start. Think the new Star Trek.. it's not in the "future" but it's still a reboot, something similar to this.

With the history that has been build on the Star Wars mythos, through the books and games and all that jazz however, I expect them to just "fast forward" into the future, instead of doing a reboot.
