It's been going on for over a week. Their site is totally tanked. (ESPN+ people can't get to watch because Dish's site is down.)

Dish Anywhere doesn't work.

Dishscapes aren't working.

The channels work.

Not that I liked either but Dish was vastly more of a crap show than Directv. I liked the interface more but you could tell they didn’t have the infrastructure to obtain their vision.

The only people I know that have Dish/DTV are my parents and in-laws. They just don’t know how to navigate sling/Hulu/YouTubeTV and will ride satellite to their graves.

Dish has actually gained subscribers lately with DTV being so expensive and their decision to drop Newsmax.

Perhaps they got overloaded, but I've also read there is speculation they got hit with a big cyber attack.

I hope they survive for rural Americans sake.

They got hit by a cyber attack. People can’t even log in to pay bills. Employees being asked to not use their work laptops. Employee side tech tools are gone

As opposed to Fox, CNN, MSNBC?

Terrible take. If they keep newsmax (which is hot garbage just like OAN) but still have on the same people that told us that it’s racist to think Covid escaped from a lab and that the vaccine was 100% effective and would stop the spread.

I’m not mud slinging here. Just that every news company gets it wrong.

Somebody on Rogan the other day said their mom was completely politically neutral and doesn’t know that the news lies. She watches Fox and CNN and said something along the lines of “those news people just can’t make up their minds.” Sometimes I think that would be a better way to go through life.

ETA: I would wager that if somebody dropped DTV because of newsmax, they probably don’t know they could just get it from Pluto for free. My in-laws have no understanding of streaming even though I got them a Roku stick and have trained them numerous times. We have the sling package with CNN and when they come over and want to watch the news, they won’t watch CNN so I do newsmax or oan for them and just laugh. I’m fine with CNN for breaking news. I just don’t take their opinions seriously same as OAN or Fox.

Im in the media and work very closely with DISH and DIRECTV corporate and have for the last 16 years.

Good guys on both sides, but DISH is run like a 3rd world country as long as Charlie is the chairman.

Here's what I know, or what I'm willing to share on a message board:

DISH was indeed hacked by an overseas party, and they are demanding a ransom. It's a massive shitshow. Since Thursday, they cannot process any new customers or activate any equipment. Their own employees lost VPN access and haven't been paid.

Charlie isnt going to pay the ransom so they are working around the clock to build a new order entry platform.

DIRECTV was losing their arse on the Sunday Ticket, approx. 1.1B a year. They've been saying they aren't renewing for a while now, so it's not shock.

Dont believe everything you read, Newsmax isn't about politics, it's a classic negotiation. Newsmax wants 3x more for the rights to program and DTV said no because it’s not paying 3x more for a channel everyone can stream for free on any device. They are still talking and expect it to be back soon.

DISH lost 270k subscribers in Q4, DTV is private now and doesn't report, but are doing great financially.

Eventually they will be one company but for now DISH has to get out of this mess. Their stock is at $12, near an all-time low.

Why don’t people just say they’ve been ransomwared?

Our email provider was hit with ransomware a few months back and refused to admit that’s what happened for a few weeks. Millions of email inboxes down around the world. I’d have been way more forgiving if they’d been up front about it.

This is their own damn fault. They clung to it for name recognition hoping it would always bring the subscribers numbers, and did not make any consumer friendly deals or services. It was the same in the 90's as it was in 2022, save for a really god awful streaming platform that worked like a monkey trying to frick a coconut. No team specific plans, no A la carte. Nothing. Just the same all or nothing. They lost money on a cash cow over abject stupidity. Now watch how much money the streaming services make on this.

Sounds like my parents. Anytime someone says ____ is the only reliable news, they have a bias.

Bring back 24/7 headline news and just give me the bullets and move on

Oh I don't watch any. People who watch Newsmax first feel it's the only real news.

I listened to that episode of Rogan and what he said about corporations controlling American media was spot on.
Though what's the alternative? National News? Then only the party in power gets good news.

What can be done to get back to objectivity?

All cable news and most news period is for entertainment first. Information second.

Agreed with that.

I’m not going to pretend that I have corner on the market for good news sources but I definitely seek out people that don’t always agree with me.

My weekly news sources/pundits are Morning Wire, Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar, Dore, Pool, Part of the Problem with Dave Smith. If I’m feeling curmudgeonly, I’ll listen to Walsh.

Lots of those people are wrong plenty and lots of them can be blow hards. But it’s good to have a variety. I’d rather listen to somebody sponsored by dick pills, gold bars, and Xpress VPN than Pfizer.

Dominion Voting Systems is about to own FOX and NEWSMAX

Texts from Tucker saying I know this is a lie but lets attack this company anyway cause its supports our political agenda is about as Stalinist as journalism can get.

100% I would like it to actually be just the facts. Just straight up read me the facts and show me some video or photos. But even that has inherent bias by the fact that they decide what I see.

Now news has to be infotainment to try to keep the attention of the audience.
