According to Variety.

quote:

Cary Fukunaga has dropped out of the project as director, sources confirmed on Monday. The “True Detective” director exited the project this weekend.

“It” was set to be split up into two films, and sources say New Line was considering making only one movie due to budget concerns. Fukunaga, however, was adamant about making two pics. They could not agree on a budget, causing Fukunaga to clash with the studio.

Production was originally set to move forward this summer, but is now stalled.

Major disappointment.

This probably would have been shitty. I still wanted to find out for sure, though.

That sucks. I was looking forward to this. "It" needs two movies to get it right.

Not necessarily, but I did have concerns with who he chose for Pennywise:

I don't get it. First Poltergeist and now IT. Some movies just should not be remade.

Hell, can we just get a bluray release of IT?

Give them all the goddamn money they want.start a gofundme or a kickstarter.

This is so stupidly disappointing.

When's the last time anything by King was done justice? Pet Semetary?

I was so much looking forward to this set of movies.

When was an R rated awesome It movie made?

Both IT and the Stand deserve better than they got.

I'm not saying Curry wasn't an awesome Penny wise but that has not aged well and it's a borderline comedy now. And don't get me started on the bullshite hack job they did to the stand.

I would say "The Shining"...and to add Kubrick's vision>>>>>>>King's vision.

The stand and It have only a nostalgic draw to them nowadays.

Secret Window was great.

ETA: Also, The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption.

I mean, a lot of his stuff has come out bad in film, but the last two are truly epic movies.

Should be remade, the first one sucked, but if they won't do it right I still have my book.

PS was good, The Shinning was one of the only movies I have ever liked as much as the book.

Came here to post this. Curry was great as Pennywise, but that movie/mini-series was terribly acted otherwise and is almost a comedy now as Breesus said.

Given the right treatment, it could easily frighten a whole new generation.
