Different movies with exact scenarios, needed for presentation

I'm giving a presentation next week and part of it is on perception. So I figured I would give a movie scenario that matches two different movies.
The examples I have so far:
A cop goes undercover to stop a ring of thieves. He uses an extreme sport to infiltrate the group. Halfway through the movie, he arrests a group of guys he believes are the thieves, but learns they are not the thieves and realizes the group of guys he has been hanging with are actually the thieves. The final scene is of him and the main thief in an extreme sport, where one of them could get killed.
This is either "Fast and the Furious" or "Point Break".
The other is:
A Tom Cruise movie where he is the new hot dog in his profession. He is breaking all the rules, but halfway through the movie, he has a major incident, causing him to lose his bravery of his career. Everyone believes he is done and will never be able to do it again, but in the end, he overcomes his fears, becoming the hero.
This is either "Top Gun" or "Days of Thunder".
Do you have any others I can present?

Three different John Wayne movies:
El Dorado, Rio Bravo and Rio Lobo
Toss in the Assault on Precinct 13 films, and that gets you 5 with essentially the same premise. Some argue they're all 5 the same movie, with different back and side stories.

Orphan with hidden jedi powers escapes a desert planet on board the Millenium Falcon with a roguish pilot and an astromech droid.
Orphan and Pilot set off on a mission to get information to the rebel alliance along the way she starts discovering her connection to the force. They go to a secret imperial base/super weapon. They try to disable said weapon's shields so the Rebel Alliance can destroy the weapon.
Old Mentor figure dies while infiltrating imperial base. Shields go down, rebels destroy the weapon.
