Your best warriors aren't at the battle to fight with Rhaeger and match against Robert Baratheon? Send them to protect a babe with the war in doubt? A babe that on one knew about? There was no imminent threat... It all just doesn't add up.

After the Battle of the Bells, the crown realized this wasn't just any uprising and King Aerys sent Danye & the other two to get Rhaegar. When they reached Rhaegar he ordered them (Danye, White Bull, Whent) to stay. Rhaegar took Martell, Darry, & Selmey of the kingsguard to the Trident. The final member of the kingsguard, Jamie, remained in King's Landing to protect the King.

Yeah.. I had already given up on that theory based on the conversation with the Kingsguard at the tower of Joy... Ned did not know Lyanna was with child.

but it just seems odd they would send their best warriors to protect a child where no imminent threat existed to the child.

They didn't, they sent those 3 to get Rhaegar. He knew Lyanna was with his child, and he had them stay with her, to protect the royal family.

That's what I assumed. What I have also always assumed was that they knew Ned was in league with Robert so it made sense as to why they would fight Ned. Especially if Lyanna was in such a state that she was dying in childbirth and unable to relay information that would say otherwise.

ETA: Something else as well, Rhaegar may have known he would possibly die at the Trident as he knew that there was the prophecy of the Prince that Was Promised (and obviously believed in it strongly). So he sent his Kingsguard to protect the next in line.

Jaime was essentially Aerys's glorified hostage to keep Tywin in line and never let him leave King's Landing during that time.

I know we all briefly discussed earlier how Jaime recalled his last conversation with Rhaegar, and that Rhaegar told Jaime that upon his return that he would call a counsel and basically overthrow his father. Why didn't Rhaegar do this right after his father burned the Starks?? Rhaegar seemed to be a day late and a dollar short during the whole course of the rebellion.

Which is the problem with Rhaegar.

Rhaegar was in Dorne with Lyanna & remember what he told Jamie, I meant to do it long ago, but ... well, it does no good to speak of roads not taken.

Also remember Jamie's dream Rhaegar tells him, I left my wife and children in your hands.

Jaime didn't know that The Mountain and Tywin were going to rape and kill Elia and her children. I'll give it that Jaime was a huge douche in AGoT but he had nothing to do with Elia and her children's deaths.

That I think is the problem, he should have been there protecting the royal family. That was his job/duty, instead he sat his arse on the iron throne.

Yeah, I definitely think that Jaime feels some guilt about it, no doubt. But I think he certainly got caught up in the moment with killing Aerys, and couldn't take his crap anymore.

What I don't understand is how the Kingsguard remained loyal to Aerys with how batshit crazy he was. None were with Viserys, Selmy and 2 others were fighting Robert, Jaime was in KL, but the rest were with Jon???

Also, if Rhaegar would've overthrown his father and prevented everything, wouldn't the Kingsguard view Rhaegar as usurping his father of sorts, since he overthrew the "rightful king"?

Dayne, Hightower, & Whent were in Dorne.

Darry, Selmy, & Martell were at the Trident with Rhaegar.

Jamie was in the Red Keep to protect the royal family.

Viserys & his mother were left with Jonothor's brother, William, who was the Master of Arms at the Red Keep. Since his claim at the time would be 5th in line, if Lyanna was carrying Rhaegar's 3rd child, he didn't warrant the protection of the King's guard.

Thanks for clarifying . I definitely think that the KG comments to Ned at the ToJ signify that Jon has to be Lyanna and Rhaegar's son. Only way George changes that is because he gets pissed that readers had 17 years to think about all the possibilities and conclude that R+L=J makes the most sense, which it does IMO.

Also, has anyone seen the new Daario photos? Not sure if I'm feeling it or not.

New Littlefinger picture....it looks like the Eyrie to me in the background.

New Littlefinger picture...possibly the Eyrie

And I've seen that thread before on there...and some of the most minute things posted in that thread make me wonder if it makes me a Hodor because I haven't reread the series a zillion times like some of those posters .

So according to the Littlefinger Facebook page, these actors have been cast in these roles:

Mads Mikkelsen--Euron Crow's Eye

Odd choice for the Crow's Eye. Honestly, I think that Mads Mikkelsen should have been cast as Roose Bolton. His is the face that comes to mind whenever I read it.

Not quite how I imagined him, but still good.

Wow, very close to how I imagined him.

This is the most I've ever agreed about with you. Although, I think Mads can own any role he takes

Same here. I think the guy who they recasted as Daario would've been a good Crow's Eye . But I'm confident in the showrunners, and their makeup/costume team is excellent.

Victarion is one of those characters that I don't have a clear image of what he'd look like (and probably because I don't care about his character much ). I'm thinking this guy is a little clean cut to be an Ironborn, but we'll see what the hair/makeup/costume does.

Damphair casting is 100% spot on, and the other guy looks 'feminine' enough to be Satin. Just hope those ASOIAF forum fangirls don't ramble on about Jon going gay for Satin in future books/seasons. . I'd rather a Dany-Jon pairing (which I don't care for that idea) over that fangirl nonsense.

I saw the Mads post last night. Still hasn't been reported anywhere else. Would be great to have him on board
