How in the hell is this movie 5% on rotten tomatos? Fantastic soundtrack. Beautiful scenery. Coughlins law. I'm not saying it needs to be 90% but 5% is reserved for jack and Jill and garbage like that

It makes absolutely no sense. I love it though it's very fun to watch.

It is a terribly awesome movie. "Cocktails and Dreams"? Lol at that. Nothing but a salary maker for Cruise and anyone else involved.

Not really a fan of RT

5.8 on IMDB out of 10 is more like it. Perhaps a 5 of 10 from me

"Anything else is always something better."

"Beer is for breakfast around here, drink or be gone."

"A man will always be judged on the amount of alcohol he can consume. And a woman will be impressed, whether she likes it or not."

"Bury the dead, they stink up the joint."

...And as for the rest of Coughlin's Laws, ignore them. The guy was always full of Sh*t.

It was lampooned for years. The story made no sense and had an ending that was too goody two shoes. Think of how people make fun of MM's Romcom's. Same thing, just the cruise version.

Except for Coughlin.

Well, Top Gun was a runaway smash and that only got a 50% or so on RT.

Cruise's highest rated movie on RT is Risky Business - more than Rain Man, Minority Report and all the Mission Impossibles.

"Allie with an I" should bump any movie up to at least 50% IMHO.

That's just insane.

The original Mission Impossible is one of the all time great action movies.

And Rainman is a damn near perfect movie.

And a movie, for which, Tom Cruise doesn't get near the amount of love he should. He CARRIED that movie. Dustin Hoffman won all the awards, but once he nailed his character, it was a one line performance the whole time. That's actually what was so frustrating from Charlie Babbit's perspective...NOTHING made Raymond change his tune.

I had heard Michael Caine years ago on Inside the Actor's Studio talk about that movie and he was the one that turned my opinion of who had done the best job in it. Hoffman's portrayal was the one people tend to remember because it's so easy to mimic (damn near every comedian did for years) but we experience the story through Cruise's eyes, and if he doesn't pull off that transformation the movie fails.

That being said, I do love Risky Business. Way more than just a silly teen sex comedy.

It is also Cruise's best performance as an actor IMO. Hoffman won the Oscar, but Cruise was vastly underrated. Love that movie!

I thought it was an average movie when I saw it many years ago, but like you, I was shocked to hear how the critics completely savaged it back in 1988. I've even heard that Bryan Brown didn't like the finished film.
