Because flair bartending is generally frowned upon.

Hell yeah. Great movie

Plus, it's gorgeous. Nearly every frame looks like a photograph...

Throw in the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream and it's just wonderful to watch.

Granted...I have a special place in my heart for that movie, as I got to see it as a 13 year old at a birthday party for a friend who's dad bought us without researching it ay all before doing so, but still...great movie.

No kidding. I feel the same way.

Now that horribly awesome song is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

It's been forever since I've seen Cocktail, but can someone explain how the story makes no sense? I must be missing something (or just am misremembering from back in the day).

It may be a little strange, but it definitely "makes sense" IMO.

You shut your mouth!

That was a favorite song of mine when I was like ten, for obvious reasons.

How much sense is it supposed to make other than BF realizing his dream of opening a bar?

There's a scene in the movie at the bar - on the tv above the bar the LSU vs Georgia game is showing.

Definitely a nostalgia factor there.

But, its great to see Joel's evolution from a stressed out highschool kid worried about getting into Princeton to a purveyor of human pleasures.

In the beginning you have his dream:

quote:

So I go to her, but she's hard to find through all the steam and stuff; I keep losing her. Finally I get to the door... and I... find myself in a room full of kids taking their college boards. I'm over three hours late; I've got two minutes to take the whole test. I've... just made a terrible mistake. I'll never get to college. My life is ruined.

How is a 17 year old kid so uptight? Its running his life. Yet at the end of the movie, we have the quote I posted earlier:

quote:

My name is Joel Goodson. I deal in human fulfillment. I grossed over eight thousand dollars in one night. Time of your life, huh kid?

It really is a beautiful movie disguised as a teen sex comedy.

When you aren't looking at the movie through the eyes of nostalgia, it is pretty damn terrible.

I still watch it whenever its on though.

My sister was in love with Tom Cruise growing up. She taped it off of ABC's Sunday Night Movie and my mom found out and somehow was able to fudge the tape so it was static during all sex scenes, though the audio stayed the same.

We must have watched this 100 times in elementary school.

Elisabeth Shue was my first love.

I mean, it was certainly lacking in substance, but I don't understand this comment.
