Along with Melissa Leo and Marisa Tomei. Adam McKay's new movie.

Impressive cast.

quote:

Director Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) has just received the cast of a lifetime: Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt have agreed to headline his next film, The Big Short. Better yet, they’ll all be joined by Academy Award-winning actresses Marisa Tomei and Melissa Leo, in addition to Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Tracy Letts.

The film is based on Michael Lewis’ bestselling non-fiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, about the build-up of the housing and credit bubble and the savvy investors who shorted the market prior to its financial collapse in 2008. Screenwriter Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs) penned the script, which McKay then further adapted into a screenplay.

And likely with a distinctly Hollywood liberal slant.

I ran into this being filmed at the Pan American building last Friday.

I suppose Carell was there somewhere since they said his name 50 times.

Not boring at all. There should have been criminal charges coming out of the housing bubble if it weren't for the fact that our politicians were just as compromised. It won't be hard at all to create some villains that will be easy to hate.

My first thought on reading this is it'd do well with at David Fincher Social Network treatment.

All of that.

I understand why many on this board are going to be skeptical about this subject getting a fair treatment, and it might turn out not to be an entirely crazy concern. But this story should be self-sufficient; there's honestly no need to put an personal/political spin to it. So I'll give McKay the benefit of the doubt until I see something to convince me otherwise.

If they stick to the source material, this one will be awesome

Great cast, and definitely a movie to look forward to.

I recently re-read a great article on this subject from 2008: LINK . If anyone thinks there aren't incredible character and plot possibilities after reading that, they're crazy.

Great book. And I hate the idea of it with an all-star cast. Because it's the ideas in it that are interesting. Hollywood is going to completely fack this up.

How were they able to get such a great cast? The writer only has seven credits to his name and the director's body of work doesn't particularly stand out either. Are there big name producers financing this project?

It's a great book so they should cast nobodies to put the ideas at the forefront?

Is this a comedy? Has Adam McKay ever done anything besides comedy?

No, but crossing genres is pretty big right now.

The counselor had a comparable cast and fell flat... Cast isn't everything..
